Baker's Top Pair No Good

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

With a flop of {J-}{X-}{X-}, David "ODB" Baker check-raised his opponent's 5,200 chip bet to 10,500. His opponent clicked it back to 15,000 and Baker shrugged and tossed out a stack of orange T5,000 chips to set his opponent all in. His foe made the call and Baker said "I don't like it" as he turned over {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for a pair of jacks with a king kicker. He was behind, however, as his opponent had {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. The turn and river would brick out and Baker would send a total of 36,400 over to his opponent.

Despite the hit, Baker was still sitting comfortably with 85,000 chips after the hand.

Cheong Over O'Donnell

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Joseph Cheong popped it up to 2,700 from the hijack and Kevin O'Donnell flatted from the cutoff. The button and small blind folded and the big blind decided to come along for the party.

The flop came down {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and action checked to Cheong. He continued out for 4,600 and O'Donnell called. The big blind folded, leaving the two heads up to the {6-Spades} on the turn. Cheong dropped 10,100 past the betting line and O'Donnell stuck around once again.

Fifth street brought the {10-Clubs} to the felt and Cheong thought for a moment before moving out what looked to be 24,700. The bet made O'Donnell shift in his seat as he pondered his action. After about a minute, he came to a decision.

"Alright, amigo," said O'Donnell. "Take it down."

O'Donnell folded, leaving himself with 119,000 while Cheong's stack increased to about 88,000.

Kessler's Day Done

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

Allen Kessler came to WinStar right off a win and a $170,031 payday at the Foxwoods World Series of Poker Circuit event earlier this week. His good run will have to try to reemerge tomorrow as he has been eliminated from Day 1a after he put the last of his chips in on a {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop with {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} and was up against {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}. The turn was the {10-Hearts} changing nothing and Kessler thought for a moment that he had survived when the river came the {9-Clubs} to give him the straight but it also gave his opponent a flush.

"Best hand I've had in hours," said Kessler as he grabbed his things.

O'Donnell Up to Something

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We get to the table with approximately 60,000 in the middle and the board showing {9-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. Kevin O'Donnell was first to act and made a bet of 13,200 and was called by the player two spots to his left. The player on the button thought long and hard before tossing his cards with flair to the dealer.

O'Donnell turned over {7-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a small flush and said "I woulda been way happier if that river was the {6-Diamonds}." The player that called mucked his hand to give O'Donnell the pot as the player across the table said "I knew you were up to something."

O'Donnell grinned and said "I flopped the gutter and backdoor flush draw. That's the nuts." O'Donnell, who has over $1.6 million in lifetime tournament earnings moved his stack to 140,000 with that pot.

Small One For Baker

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The board read {5-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and David "ODB" Baker was heads up with an opponent. Baker fired a bet of 2,800 and his opponent called to see the river.

The dealer produced the {8-Diamonds} on the river, putting a pair on the board. Baker flicked out 1,200 - a minimum bet. His opponent called and showed {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for king high. Baker showed {5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for eights and fives and the win. He took down the pot and now has about 88,000 in chips.
