The 2014 WinStar River Poker Series Main Event is looking as if it will crush the $2.5 million guarantee. After 366 entrants took part in Day 1a, the tournament had another 455 entrants today bringing the two day total to 821. With still one more flight to come, the prize pool could approach or top the $3 million mark before all is said and done.
The 455 entrants today means they will play down to the final 46 before calling it a night.
Allen Kessler got the last of his chips in with and was racing against a slightly bigger stack holding . An ace would flop, a king would hit the turn, and Kessler was unable to spike the two outer on the river to stay alive. He'll have one more shot tomorrow to make a deep run.
We didn't catch the action but all the chips were in between three players on a flop of and Nate Kogel was looking good with his against the that Aaron Massey held and the of the third player involved in the hand. The player in the cutoff opened with a raise to 4,000 only to have La Sengphet three-bet to 8,000 from the button. The blinds released their hands and the cutoff four-bet shipped for approximately 25,000. Sengphet called and the hands were turned on their backs.

The board read when we found Huy Nguyen and a player heads up in the hand. Action was checked to Nguyen and he fired out a bet of 2,500. Nguyen's opponent came over the top with a check-raise to 5,500. Nguyen called.

We missed the action, but recently spied Brandon Steven making his way toward the exit of the tournament area. He has been eliminated from play and we're likely to see him back at the tables for a third try tomorrow.
