Biography

Maria Ho is a Chinese-American professional poker player from Arcadia, California. With more than $1 million in lifetime tournament winnings Ho is one of the most successful female poker players around. Although she yet has to score major titles, Ho already has a number of big finishes including a runner-up position in a WSOP event for more than half a million dollars.

Intro

Ho was born in 1983 in Taipei, Taiwan, but moved to the US at a very young age. Ho started playing poker while she was studying Communications and Law at the University of California, San Diego. At first she competed against her friends in home games, but soon moved on to playing limit cash games at nearby Indian casinos. Ho took her game to the next level after graduating from university in 2005. She started playing high stakes cash games and after awhile moved to the big tournaments.

World Series of Poker

Ho cashed in her first WSOP event in 2005. She placed 110th in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em tournament taking home almost $3,000. Her second cash came two years later at the 2007 World Series. First she finished in the money in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em for almost $6,000 and then became the last woman standing in the Main Event. Ho finished the tournament in 38th place collecting $237,865 in prize money.

Ho scored two more WSOP cashes in 2009 and another three in 2010 while in 2011 she came very close to winning her first WSOP bracelet. Ho placed second in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em event loosing the final battle to Allen Bari and taking home $540,000.

World Poker Tour

Ho has two World Poker Tour money finishes on her record. She first cashed in the $9,900 Main Event at the 2009 L.A. Poker Classic. Ho finished the event in 43rd place for $32,740. Then one year later she placed 10th in the $10,000 WPT Championship event at the Bellagio Cup VI in Las Vegas taking home $40,783.

European Poker Tour

Ho has yet to conquer the European tournament circuit as she only has one European Poker Tour money finish to her name. In 2012 Ho placed 79th at the EPT Grand Final, Monte Carlo €10,000 Main Event for €15,000.

Other Achievements

In 2006 Ho reached the final table in the $485 No-Limit Hold'em event at the Heavenly Hold'em in Los Angeles. She finished the tournament in third place for $12,885. In May, 2010 she was the member of Team China at the $50,000 World Team Poker Inaugural Event in Las Vegas and won the event collecting $42,857. In October of the same year Ho final tabled in the ZAR5,000 Main Event at the WSOP-Circuit Emerald Casino event in Vanderbijlpark in South Africa. Ho took home $43,604 for her sixth place finish in that event. Then in 2011 she placed second in the A$10,000 8 Game even at the Aussie Millions Poker Championship taking home A$70,000.

Maria Ho used to represent the UB.com online poker site until it went down after the events of Black Friday in 2011.
