Houshiar Doubles Through Fung

Homan Houshiar
Homan Houshiar
On a board showing {2-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, Homan Houshiar and Steven Fung got it all in, with Houshiar's tournament life on the line.

Fung tabled a pocket pair of kings for the mortal nuts, but Houshiar's {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} was far from dead... especially not after the {9-Hearts} fell on the turn, giving him the lead.

The {5-Diamonds} completed the board and Houshiar's nut heart flush earned him the pot, worth 310,000 in chips.

Tommy Vedes Eliminated in 18th Place ($17,300)

Tommy Vedes - 18th Place
Tommy Vedes - 18th Place
We have our first money elimination. Tommy Vedes was in the big blind for his last hand. Antony Lellouche raised to 30,000 and was called in position by Steven Fung, prompting Vedes to call as well. Vedes moved all in with first action on a flop of {9-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {8-Clubs}. Lellouche quickly folded and Fung just as quickly called.

Vedes: {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}
Fung: {k-Diamonds} {k-Spades}

"I need a lady," said Vedes.

"We've seen it before," offered Layne Flack. But we would not see it this time. The turn and river were the {j-Diamonds} and {5-Diamonds}. Vedes shipped his stack to Fung and left the table, the last of the Greek Cypriots to be eliminated from this tournament.

Sick Bluff?

There are lots of chips and lots of action on Table 1. Rep Porter brought the action first into the pot preflop with a raise to 28,000. Antony Lellouche re-raised to 73,000 and only Porter called.

The flop came paired, {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} {4-Hearts}. Porter checkd to Lellouche, then called a bet of 70,000. After both players checked the {8-Diamonds} turn, Porter made a large bet of 140,000 on the river {10-Diamonds}}. It was a bet that caused Lellouche lots of consternation. He considered his action for two solid minutes before tossing his cards into the dealer.

"Sick bluff," said Jonathan Little with a laugh.

Arpa Huckleberried in 17th Place ($17,300)

Ahmet Arpa
Ahmet Arpa
Ahmet Arpa's two-hand clash with Full Tilt Pro Huck Seed resulted in his elimination from the tournament.

In the first hand, Arpa opened with a raise to 50,000 from early position and Seed countered with a reraise to 103,000. Arpa made the call, but folded to Huck's continuation bet on the {6-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop that would've put Arpa all in.

One hand later, Seed opened with a 29,000 raise and Arpa moved all in for his last 49,000. Seed made the call holding {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}, which bested Arpa's {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} after the board ran out {3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

Seed piled up right around 560,000 in chips after the dust settled.

Joseph El Khoury Eliminated in 16th Place ($17,300)

Joseph El Khoury - 16th Place
Joseph El Khoury - 16th Place
Ouch. Joseph El Khoury's going to be thinking about his elimination from this tournament for a long time. Sitting in the big blind, he called Layne Flack's preflop raise of 30,000. El Khoury then checked to Flack on a board of {2-Spades} {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs}, prompting Flack to bet 52,000.

Taking his time counting out chips, El Khoury check-raised to about 140,000. We say about because, before the raise could be counted, Flack announced all in and El Khoury snap-called.

El Khoury: {2-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}
Flack: {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}

El Khoury flopped deuces full of fours, but Layne Flack has been running great when he needed it for most of this tournament. The {9-Hearts} promptly hit the turn, drawing collective gasps from everyone at the table.

"What just happened?" asked the massage therapst working on Flack's shoulders.

"The most interesting turn card in the world," replied the Most Interesting Man in the World. The river was not the case deuce. It was the {A-Clubs}, sending a stunned El Khoury to the rail.

"I can't believe it," he said.

"It's just like Aruba all over again," mused Flack.

Fung Doubles through Lellouche

On the first hand back from break, Antony Lellouche raised from late position to 30,000. Small blind Steven Fung then re-raised all in for 367,000 total. Lellouche thought, and thought, and then thought some more before finally calling with {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds}.

"Sick call," said Jonathan Little.

Fung turned over {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts} and the race was on. He won it on a board of {Q-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {2-Hearts}, making a pair of queens to overtake Lellouche's fives.

Lellouche is now down to a short 207,000. Fung is up to a more robust 753,000.

Plauski's Turn to Double

This could be the Level of the Double-Up. A third player has doubled up in the fifteen minutes since the level started. Jonathan Little opened the pot with a raise to 35,000, then quickly called when Aleh Plauski moved all in for 182,000.

Little: {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades}
Plauski: {k-Diamonds} {k-Clubs}

"I folded a jack," said Layne Flack.

"You folded a jack?" repeated Little. "One-outer one time."

"Yeah, I folded a jack. It was the first card I saw. I didn't want to see another one."

Nobody else saw the fourth jack. The board rolled out {10-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {5-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}. After Little shipped the required number of chips, he was down to about 300,000. Plauski now has 380,000.
