Day 1a Started
World Poker Tour is ready to kick off its third Canadian event of 2015. Partypoker.net WPT Montreal is hosted by Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, Quebec, just across the St. Lawrence river from beautiful and historic downtown Montreal.
With three Day 1s, there is plenty of opportunity for players to turn their $3,850 buy-in into a Day 2 stack. Day 1a kicks off at 11 a.m. on Friday the 13th, followed by Day 1b and 1c on Saturday and Sunday, before those remaining return for Monday's Day 2. The tournament has a next-day reentry format, so players who are eliminated on a Day 1 can return and buy in again on another Day 1. If a player is lucky enough to survive more than one starting day, their largest stack will be carried to Day 2.
Last year, this event saw 732 entries to create a prize pool of $2,485,140 CAD and the final table was packed full of talent. Jonathan Jaffe won the title for $464,252, but also joining him within the top 10 were the likes of Mukul Pahuja (third - $201,920), Kevin MacPhee (fourth - $149,340), Sam Chartier (fifth - $111,820), and Marc-Andre Ladouceur (ninth - $44,680). There is little doubt that this year's event will also feature a big roster of poker's best players.

Ami Alibay has just joined the action and got involved in a pot with Benoit Jean.
Alibay raised to 350 from early position and only Jean called on the button. The dealer burned a card and swiped across the table.
Alibay checked and Jean bet 600, getting a call from his opponent.
The turn was the and Alibay instantly checked. Jean checked behind after a moment's pause, and the dealer put the on the felt.
Alibay led out for 1,500 and Jean thought for a few seconds before throwing his cards in the muck, giving the small pot to Alibay for a good start to his tournament.
