Brian Altman Takes Big Stack to WPT Montreal Final Table

It took a little over six hours to establish an official World Poker Tour final table of six players on Day 4 of the 2015 partypoker.net WPT Montreal Main Event from Playground Poker Club. The day began with 16 players, but in the end only half a dozen remained.

Trevor Delaney started out as the chip leader by a good margin when play resumed at noon local time, but he found those chips to be slippery as they escaped his grasp, mostly to the stack of Brian Altman. Delaney ended up finishing in 13th place for $25,810, whereas Altman soared up the leaderboard.

Altman, the only WPT Champions Club member at the final table, took over the role as chip leader early in the day and mostly held onto it through to the end of play. He counted and bagged 8,460,000 in chips for the final day, and that's a solid margin over anyone else.

Trailing by a good bit was Darryll Fish with 5,160,000, and Rainer Kempe sat in the third spot with 2,955,000.

The bottom three spots were filled by AJ Gambino (1,625,000), Carter Swidler (1,395,000), the only Canadian on the final table of this Canadian WPT stop, and Jared Mahoney (1,260,000).

The top prize is set at $433,410 CAD and all players are guaranteed at least $87,520.

Some of the players who advanced to Day 4 but were eliminated included Giacomo Fundaro (9ninth - $43,410), Darren Elias (11th - $31,910), and Jason Mann (14th - $25,810).

Play will resume on Thursday for the televised WPT final table at 4 p.m. local time, and PokerNews will be on site to deliver live updates of all the action all the way until the latest WPT title is awarded.

Chris Arvanitis Eliminated in Seventh Place for $72,510

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

There was a flop of {q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} on the table and Brian Altman checked. With action on Chris Arvanitis, he bet 250,000. Altman raised to 625,000 and Arvanitis pushed all in. Altman called and the two flipped over their cards.

Altman: {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Arvanitis: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Arvanitis had the best of it with the top pair and a better kicker, and the {9-Hearts} was effectively a blank. However, the {k-Clubs} hit the river and Altman improved to two pairs, eliminating Arvanitis in seventh place for $72,510.

With that seventh-place elimination, play has now paused for the day to continue tomorrow on the WPT final table.

Arvanitis Doubles Through Gambino

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

AJ Gambino was on the button and got it all in preflop with the shorter-stacked Chris Arvanitis in the small blind.

Gambino: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Arvanitis: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

Right on the flop of {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, Arvanitis had reason to celebrate with top set. The turn and river came {8-Clubs} and {10-Hearts} and Arvanitis scooped up the double-up.

Arvanitis Gets It In

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Chris Arvanitis has got it all in several times in the last level, looking to get a double-up but hasn't found callers too often.

In one hand with Brian Altman, they were looking at a board of {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} and Arvanitis checked. Altman raised to 215,000 and Arvanitis instantly pushed all in. After a moment of thought, Altman called.

Arvanitis: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Altman: {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

When the {j-Clubs} hit the river, the two players chopped the pot.
