Should He Stay or Should He Go?

After a level of, in his words, "getting extremely unlucky," Giovanni Marcacci stated "Whatever, I'm ready to get on a plane and go home." A few moments later, a clearly frustrated Marcacci later reminded us, "I was down to 3500 in Tunica and came back to almost win that," hinting that he has not given up just yet.

It's Official

With estimates swirling "around a hundred," most were closer than they thought. With registration now closed, the official number of entrants into this championship event is 99. Prizepool and payout figures will be updated as soon as they become available.

An Early Chip Leader Emerges

Chip Leader James Salters
Chip Leader James Salters
With the average stack still under 11,000, James Salters of Long Island, NY seems to be the clear chip leader. Salters, whose most recent cash was just a few weeks ago at the WPT Borgata, is currently sitting on about 27,000 chips.

Girl Power

Lou Merwick - The Lone Female
Lou Merwick - The Lone Female
Of the 99 entrants in this event, there is but one female. Her name is Lou Merwick and she is from Lincoln, Nebraska. Merwick is calm and confident and for good reason. She won not one, but two seats into this event via satellite. When asked about the other seat, Merwick smiled and said, "I gave it to my son." Merwick has a bit of catching up to do as she is currently working with about 4,400 chips.

The Final Table Set
The Final Table Set
Just some 25 feet from the closest table, a crew is hard at work setting up the stage for the televised final table. While most seem oblivious to it at the moment, it's an inevitable certainty that nine of the 93 remaining players will be seated at this final table on Wednesday for their chance at possible life-changing money.

Prizepool and Payouts Released

A total of 99 entrants resulted in total prize pool of $495,000. Nine places will be paid with the winner will take home $168,894 and a seat in the 2008 WSOP Main Event. Cashing in this event will earn you almost three times your buy-in, as ninth place takes home $14,075. See the "Prizepool and Payouts" link for complete information.
