Gank Straightens Out

Brett "Gank" Jungblut had been whittled down to about 9,000 in chips prior to the last hand.

In it, he held {10-Clubs} {J-Clubs} and was heads up against a lone opponent. The flop brought {7-?} {8-?} {9-?}, and eventually Gank would end up all in. He was looked up by his opponent, but the board was in Gank's favor. His flopped straight was the winner, earning him a double up back to 18,000.

"Did you flop that?" someone asked Gank.

"Of course. You know how I do," responded the pro.

The 2006 winner of this event, Rick Rossetti, was just eliminated. His {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} was unable to hold against an opponents {7-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} after the flop came {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} {5-Clubs}. Another seven sealed the deal and the former champ was sent home before the dinner break on Day 1.

Gazing At Aces

From middle position, a player opened with a raise to 1,050. Action passed around to Billy Gazes in the small blind, and he began to count out a reraise. After a minute, he stacked 5,050 chips and slid them forward. That was enough to get the original raiser to fold, earning Gazes a small pot.

Sheepishly, Gazes flashed the {A-Spades}, and then flipped both cards face-up on the table: {A-Spades} {A-Hearts}. With that little win, he has climbed up to a healthy 30,000 in chips.

Brett "Gank" Jungblut Eliminated

After a middle position player opened to 1,600, Brett "Gank" Jungblut went all in for about 4,500. In the small blind Abe Korotki reshoved and successfully isolated the pot. Gank showed {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} and was racing against Korotki's {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades}. The board ran out {J-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {9-Hearts} {8-Spades} {6-Spades} and Gank was sent to the rail.

Abe Korotki is now back up to 65,000.
