Slowing Down

In the first two levels of the day, 29 of the 66 players were eliminated. In the last hour, there have been only 5 eliminations. Players have begun to sense the approaching money bubble and seem to be tightening up. The average stack is also fairly deep for this stage of the tournament, with approximately 60 big blinds.

Madsen Busto

Jeff Madsen - eliminated
Jeff Madsen - eliminated
As it often does in poker tournaments, it came down to a flip for Jeff Madsen. He opened for 5,000, then moved in for 27,000 after an opponent on his left three-bet to 18,000. That opponent quickly called.

"Do you have aces?" he asked Madsen.

"No," said Madsen. "I just can't fold this." He opened two tens, {10-Hearts} {10-Clubs}, and was racing {A-Spades} {k-Clubs}. The flop was a clean {6-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {9-Clubs} but the {K-Spades} on the turn was a killer for Madsen. He was on his way out of the room as soon as the {7-Spades} hit the river.

Stout Increases His Lead

Matt Stout just picked up a nice pot to add some chips to his field-leading stack. He opened the action from under the gun with a raise to 5,000. A player in middle position called and then Steven Burkholder called from the big blind. The three of them saw a flop of {Q-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

Burkholder was first up and checked. Stout fired 11,000 and the next player folded. Burkholder made the call.

After the turn put the {A-Spades} out there, Burkholder check-folded to a bet from Stout. Stout's now on 280,000 chips.

Devo Doubles Hitting Quads

Doug Lee just called Bryan Devonshire's all-in raise on the turn with the board reading {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. He held the {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a straight draw while Devonshire held a set of fives. The all-in raise was worth 49,800 total.

The river was the case five with the {5-Spades} and Devonshire made quads to double to around 120,000 chips. A nice rush has come to Devonshire after he nursed the short stack for most of the day thus far. Let's see how he does with some chips now.
