Shawn Yesko open-shoved for 46,000 under the gun, and Huy Nguyen called from the big blind with his big stack. It was Yesko's well out in front of Nguyen's as the card lay.
Things changed quickly, though, and the board ran cruelly for Yesko. It came , and he has been eliminated.
Huy is now really taking control, up to 555,000 and well out in front.
From the cutoff seat, Josh Mischel got his last 34,000 chips into the middle with , and Mark Herm called with from the big blind. He was drawing live for the knockout, and he'd get it.
A queen appeared right on the flop, and Mischel could not catch up. He's out in 26th place, earning the first full cashout of this event.
Michael Rocco made it 14,000 to go from the hijack seat, and Peter Mavro three-bet all in for about 40,000 from the button. Rocco called with the , and Mavro was in good shape to double with .
Good shape, that is, until the flop crushed his dreams. Rocco had flopped a big lead, and the turn and river secured Mavro's elimination in 28th place.
He needed to stick around and sweat it out, as he'd get to split the bottom payout with any other players eliminated during the orbit. Much to his delight, Paul Shedaker was also eliminated a couple hands later, and the two men will chop up $3,130, almost earning their money back.
The 26 players who survived those four orbits are now guaranteed a paycheck, and we're redrawing the final three tables as we speak.
During the final hand of that orbit, only one table was in play, and most of the field were out of their chairs surrounding the table as this hand played out.
It began with Jake Toole raising to 13,000 under the gun, and Sean Knitter called from the cutoff seat. On the button, Josh Mischel three-bet to 30,000. That shook Toole out of the way, but Knitter called again to go to the flop.
It came , and Knitter check-called a bet of 32,000. Both men checked through the turn, and the river filled out the board. Knitter checked again, and Mischel announced an all in for his opponent's effective stack of 82,500. Knitter snap-called, and Mischel turned over for jacks full. It was second-best. Knitter's had run down a better full house, earning him the pot and the much-needed double. He's all the way up to about 285,000 now, while Mischel is left with just 52,000 lonely chips.
With Henniger surviving that sketchy all in, we've gone though another orbit without losing a player. We've still got 28 left, and round three is under way.
On a flop, David Henniger led out with a bet, and Mark "dipthrong" Herm raised all in. Henniger called all in for about 55,000 total, and the cards were on their backs.
Showdown
Henniger:
Herm:
Herm's pair was in front, but that didn't last very long. The tournament-saving spiked the turn, bringing Henniger into a big lead with one to come. The river was a blank, and Herm looked a bit peeved as he counted out his debt.
Stacking that pot moves Henniger up to about 140,000, leaving Herm with 100,000 in the process.
In the cutoff seat, Kenny Nguyen opened with a standard raise, and Ryan Waddell three-bet to 37,500. Not deterred at all, Nguyen proceeded to reraise to 100,000 straight. Waddell let it go, and Nguyen flashed his mighty as he dragged the pot.
Mark him down for 340,000 now, up into the top five.
