One for Tryba

The action has been slow here in the first level and a half. In a recent hand, there was 1,125 in the pot on a board reading {2-Spades}{5-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} when the player in the small blind checked to Chris Tryba. The Circuit regular took the opportunity to put out a bet of 525, which was good enough to get his opponent to fold.

Despite that win, the early levels have not been great to Tryba, who is down a little to 16,700.

Rough Start for Sengphet

Three players created a pot of 575 and saw a flop of {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{A-Hearts}. The player in the big blind checked to La Sengphet in middle position. Last year's National Championship fourth-place finisher took the opportunity to bet 250, which the player in the hijack called. After the big blind got out of the way, the dealer burned and turned the {7-Diamonds}, which prompted Sengphet to bet 425.

The cutoff again made the call and watched as the {8-Diamonds} hit the turn. This time Sengphet checked, the cutoff bet 550, and Sengphet made the call. The cutoff rolled over {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for the flopped nuts, which resulted n Sengphet mucking her hand, dropping to 8,000 in the process.

Massey Lays it Down on the River

John J. Nguyen limped from middle position, an opponent raised to 150 and Aaron Massey bumped it to 625 on the button. Nguyen and the unknown player both called to the see the flop fall {J-Clubs} {9-Spades} {7-Diamonds}. Nguyen led out with 1,500, the unknown player folded and Massey called. Both players checked the {5-Hearts} turn and the river was the {6-Clubs}. Nguyen bet 3,000 and after a lengthy stare down Massey folded his hand.

Liebert's River Raise Doesn't Convince

We found Kathy Liebert in a hand with three other players and the flop was {2-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {4-Clubs}. A middle position player bet 250, another player behind him raised to 650, Liebert called and the original bettor folded. The turn came {7-Clubs} and Liebert was heads up with the raiser and they both checked. The river came {5-Clubs}, the unknown player bet 350 and Liebert raised to 3,500.

Her opponent was unconvinced and called. Liebert tabled {K-Hearts} {10-Hearts} for a busted flush draw and her opponent turned over {K-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} for top pair.

Preflop Aggression Doesn't Pay Off for Toole

An under-the-gun player limped and was quickly met with a raise to 525 from a player in early position. A middle-position player made the call, and action folded around to Jake Toole in the big blind. Toole, who busted yesterday and decided to re-enter today, decided to put in a three-bet to 2,400. The UTG player got out of the way while the original raiser made it 4,500 to go.

The MP limper made the call, as did Toole, and it was three-way action to the {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop. Toole checked, as did the EP player, and the MP player took the opportunity to fire out 6,600. There was some deliberation by both Toole and the EP player, but both ultimately decided to concede the hand.

Toole was off to a good start in the first to levels, but that hand set him back to 18,500.
