Day 2 Started

Big Names with Big Stacks on Day 2

Matt Keikoan starts Day 2 in second place
Matt Keikoan starts Day 2 in second place

Good morning once again, and welcome back for Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe Main Event!

So far, 321 players have put up their money, and registration is still open until play resumes about an hour from now. We expect to see another handful of latecomers join the fun. We don't need any more to set a record, though; this Main Event has already smashed the previous record.

Coming into Day 2, it's Ron McMillen wielding the biggest stack of 143,400, but he's got some company on his rear radar. Double bracelet winner (and former Lake Tahoe champion) Matt Keikoan looks to be in second place with 120,000 flat, and Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon put on a fantastic show in the evening flight to bag up just shy of 100,000. Also near the top of the count is another holder of both a ring and a bracelet, Sam Barnhart. You might recall that Barnhart won the first bracelet of 2011 in the WSOPC National Championship, and he'll return today with 80,400 chips in his bag.

All in all, about 185 players will return to the felt at noon to play another 14 levels. The tournament area is just starting to come to life with chip bags and decks being passed out table-to-table. We should have a seat draw for you shortly, and we'll have a ringside seat once the action recommences.

Don't wander away on us. Day 2 is going to be a dandy.

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We had a total of 321 players yesterday between the two combined flights, and 175 of them survived. We picked up another half-dozen stragglers this morning, bringing our total up to 327. That means we've got 181 players left in their seats today, and the're playing for a six-figure top prize.

Registration has just been finalized within the last minute, so we'll have the prizepool information for you shortly.

Holmes Wakes Up with a Pair

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

A short-stacked early position player moved all in for 11,200 and action folded around to Ivan Holmes in the small blind. He looked down, called and the big blind released his hand. The hands were turned up and they were off to the races.

Holmes: {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}
Opponent: {5-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}

The board ran {7-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {4-Spades} {A-Spades} and Holmes earned a knockout and pushed his stack to just above the starting stack.

LePage Torn

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Annie LePage - out
Annie LePage - out

Annie LePage came into the day riding a short stack of just 12bb, and she waited about an orbit before making her stand. From middle position, LePage shoved in for right around 10,000, and Matthew Weber isolated with a big reraise right next door. When the rest of the table folded out of the way, the cards were turned up.

Showdown
LePage: {10-Clubs} {J-Spades}
Weber: {10-Spades} {10-Hearts}

The flop was maximum sweat-age as it came out {9-Spades} {8-Spades} {10-Diamonds}, hitting both players pretty hard. LePage was still well behind, but she now had eight outs to make the winning straight.

Turn: {K-Spades}.

An even better sweat! LePage added another handful outs with the spade draw, but they would prove to be insufficient. The {3-Clubs} river was the wrong shade of black, and Weber's set of tens hold to give him the knockout. He was already one of the big stacks, and he's worked his count up over 120,000 with that pot.

Debo Dusted

Gary DeBernardi - out
Gary DeBernardi - out

Gary "Debo34" DeBernardi just came pacing past our desk with that just-eliminated look about him. A quick conversation confirmed the bad news.

Debo was crippled in a blind-versus-blind encounter when his ace-ten ran up against his neighbor's ace-queen to no avail. A few hands later, a flip took the rest of his chips, and DeBernardi has been relegated to the rail here early on Day 2.

Falling Fast

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The board shows 168 players left, but we've already seen at least three tables break in quick succession. The march to the exit is on here in Lake Tahoe, and the chips are flying around the felt here in the early going.

Richardson Flops Two Pair

We found Clay Richardson heads up with an unknown opponent on a flop of {A-Hearts} {4-Spades} {9-Spades}. His opponent moved all in and Richardson called.

Richardson: {A-Spades} {9-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-} {K-}

His opponent needed to hit a king to stay alive. But he couldn't find a cowboy when the board finished with the {7-Spades} {4-Hearts} and Richardson chipped up to 80,000.
