Medici Has Returned

If you followed the coverage yesterday, you surely remember Giorgio Medici. In case you missed it, here is the story of his roller coaster day. Medici was one of many who entered the dinner break short stacked, sitting on just 16,000. In the two hours after the break, Medici went on a meteoric rise, climbing all the way to 400,000, which at the time was double what anyone else had in the tournament. However, it would come crashing down in the last level of the night, when he got in a ginormous pot with Joe Kuether, yesterday's end of day chip leader. Medici got it all in preflop with {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} against Kuether's {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a 380,000 chip pot, and Kuether held. Medici was eliminated shortly after. We certainly expect to see some more fireworks from Medici today.

Madsen Back To Starting Stack

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jeff Madsen was in the cutoff and flatted the raise to 250 from a player in middle position. They saw the {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop heads up and Madsen once again just called a continuation bet of 350.

The turn was the {j-Spades}. This time the aggressive opponent fired 750. Madsen continued to call. The river was the {2-Diamonds} which slowed down the action some by bring a check by the player first to act. Madsen reached for chips and threw out 2,100. After a minute or two of thought, Madsen was looked up and he calmly tabled {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. It was good enough to scoop the pot and get him back up to 20,000.

Williams vs Gold

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Action folded around to David Williams in the small blind and he completed. Jamie Gold was waiting in the big blind and he pumped up the action to 400. Williams made the call.

The flop was {9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs}. Williams check-called a bet of 500 from Gold. The {10-Clubs} turn was checked twice. When the river came down the {k-Clubs}, Williams checked for a third time. Gold threw out another 500 chip and received a quick call from his opponent.

"River," Gold stated. Williams quickly mucked and Gold tabled his {k-Spades}{j-Hearts} to scoop the pot.

Well You Don't See That Very Often

We caught the action on the turn of a {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} board. Bob Whalen was in the small blind position with 3,000 chips in front of the betting line. A player in middle position had appeared to have called before the player in the hijack had moved all in for his final 16,100. Action was back on Whalen and he moved all in over the top. Amazingly, the other player in the hand called and the hands were turned up.

Whalen had flopped a strait flush with the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and had his opponents, who held {k-}{q-} and {k-}{j-} for full houses, drawing dead.

Williams Gets Picked Off

We came to the table as David Williams was heads up with his opponent on a board that read {10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Williams had fired out 700, and action was on his opponent, who made the call. The river came the {2-Diamonds}, and Williams wasted little time in firing out 2,000. His opponent seemed concerned about the fourth diamond, but flung in the call after 15 seconds of thinking. Williams just announced "king" while his opponent tabled {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a flush. After the hand, Williams is down ti 14,000.

Jackson Doesn't Like The Turn

Devin Jackson was in the big blind, and was heads up with his opponent who was on the button. The board read {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{a-Clubs}, and Jackson's opponent had bet 1,100 into the pot which had 1,700 in it. Jackson called, and the river came the {4-Clubs}. Jackson checked again, and this time, he faced a bet of 2,075. Jackson stood up, starting to shake his head, and begrudgingly tossed in the call. His opponent showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, and Jackson shook his head, said "you got lucky!", and showed {8-Clubs}{5-Spades} for a flopped two pair that was no good. The hit dropped him below his starting stack.

Well That Wasn't Very Exciting

We posted earlier about Giorgio Medici made his return today after a wild Day 1A. We were hoping that he would provide more action today, but as we walked over to his table,we saw that his seat was empty with no chips in front of it. He has been eliminated from the tournament.

Magnus Stumbles

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

A player in middle position raised to 325 and was called by Scott Clements and Nadya Magnus, both of whom were to his immediate left. The players in the blinds played as well.

The flop was {q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. Action checked to Magnus and she fired 900. The next two players folded before the preflop raiser moved all in for 3,350. Clements quickly got out of the way and after a minute or two of thought, Magnus made the call to put her opponent at risk.

Magnus: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Magnus might have been surprised to see that she was actually ahead. The turn changed things, however, when it landed the {j-Diamonds} and filled the inside strait portion of her opponents draw. The {9-Clubs} river didn't change the result and Magnus falls to 16,000.
