The World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah's Tunica Main Event Day 1a has wrapped up play after nine levels of play. Approximately 430 entrants put up the $1,600 entrance fee and about 250 players will be moving on to Day 2. Ray Weaver sits atop the counts with 138,500.
Notables moving on to Day 2 include Roland Israel, Jacob Bazely, Abraham Araya, Jerry Monroe, Dave Clark, Kyle Cartwright, "Cowboy John Lang, Matthew Chang, Russell Ivy, "Captain" Tom Franklin and Preston Derden.
But not all notables had a great flight; Aaron Massey, Mark "Pegasus" Smith, Shaun Johnston, Sam Barnhart, Traci Brown, Eric Crain and Earl Barron all were eliminated during play.
We've got just about a half hour before the Day 1b flight kicks off and we'll be looking for some our Day 1a bustouts to take to the felt again. Follow all the WSOPC action live on Pokernews.com when Day 1b starts at 7 p.m. CST.
Action folded to an unknown player in the cutoff and he opened. Aaron Massey then shoved all in from the button for 13,500, which inspired both blinds to fold. The original raiser thought for a few moments before making the calls.

Cutoff |
Massey was in great shape to double, especially after the flop, which contained just one heart. Much to Massey's dismay, the hit on the turn followed by the river, giving the cutoff a runner-runner flush.
Massey has confirmed that he will be giving it another go in the 7 p.m. flight.

Roland Israel opened for around 3,400 from early position only to have the player in the big blind move all in for a little over 10,000. Israel made the call and it was off to the races:
Showdown
Israel | |
Big Blind |
The at-risk player was on his feet and pleading for a nine to solidify his lead. While the flop did not deliver, it didn't hit Israel either. Unfortunately for the big blind, the turn did hit his opponent, giving him Broadway and a guaranteed win. The meaningless was put out on the river as the big blind exited the tournament area; meanwhile, Israel chipped up to 70,000 and is primed to finish the starting flight with a healthy stack.

Shaun Johnston has been nursing a short stack for much of the day and recently decided to make a stand just before the level up by moving all in under the gun for 8,450. The next player to act made the call, while the rest of the field opted to get out of the way.
Showdown
Johnston | |
Opponent |
It was a classic race and Johnston seemed confident in his position; however, by the look on his face, that confidence turned to doubt on the flop. The perked him up a bit as it delivered an open-ended straight draw to go along with his overs, but the river missed his plethora of outs and he was dispatched just before the last level of the opening flight.

In most large tournaments Table 1 is usually pretty lonely. It's usually stuck in the corner with bad lighting without a whole lot of action. Well today's flight has seen a lot of action on Table 1. Players keep busting from the table and as a result there are two 80,000 stacks at the table. Nick Walker and Steven Gurney-Goldman are the lucky recipients of all the action.
Gurney-Goldman is fresh off a 14th place finish in the Main Event at WSOPC Choctaw.

We didn't catch the hand, but it appears Mark "Pegasus" Smith has been eliminated from the tournament. If we were betting, we'd say the all-time WSOP Circuit ring leader will be back in less than two hours for another shot at ring #6.

When we last saw Kurt Jewell he had a frown on his face and stack just over 10,000. We just walked by and though he's not exactly smiling, he's got to be happy. He's chipped up significantly has a stack near 60,000.
We saw him go to a flop with three other players and the board showed . All players checked to the turn and Jewell put out a bet of 3,275. The other players were convinced and folded, surrendering the pot to Jewell.
