A Tournament First

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Well, we're not sure we've ever seen this one before.

A few moments ago, we heard quick whispers from the tournament staff that they'd be pausing the clock for two minutes during the middle of the level. It's not a break, but we do need to show some respect for the National Anthem.

There is a full-throated gentleman out on the dog track running through The Star Spangled Banner as we speak, and play has been halted to give the man an audience.

It's the land of the free and the home of the brave, and we're back to playing this great American game once again. It looks like the greyhound races are set to begin for the day, as well, and the nearly empty Palm Beach Kennel Club has suddenly filled in with weekend warriors looking for a Trifecta.

Chips From Up Top

These include a new addition to the chip counts, WSOPC perennial doer-well, Kyle Cartwright.

Cartwright won three rings in a two-month period during the last season, and he's back looking for another one this week in Palm Beach.

Welcome, Lee

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Lee Childs has just finished in 6th place in the $1,000 Event #9 picking up $7,540. That's enough to buy in to this Main Event — twice if needed.

Childs has just taken his first bullet, joining our field here in the Main Event with his 20,000-chip starting stack.

Break Time

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

We've put our first three levels in the books, and the players are off for their first 15-minute break of the day.

Time to watch the doggies run for a few minutes.

Movin' On Up

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

The number on the big board has ticked up to 469 runners for this Day 1a flight. That number represents an increase of 1 over last year's Day 1a field size of 468, and registration is theoretically open through all nine levels of the flight.

Lee Picks Off Opponent's Bluff

We arrived at Bernard Lee's table after a {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop with 1,575 in the middle.

The pot was three-handed and action was on mystery player #1, facing a bet from Lee. A check-fold from the first player led to the other player in the pot putting in a check-raise to 2,250. Lee called to see the {K-Hearts} turn. His opponent bet 4,500, but was unable to shake Lee.

When the {7-Spades} river fell, Lee's opponent shoved for what appeared to be just shy of 10,000. With {A-Spades}{J-Spades}, Lee beat him into the pot with calling chips. His opponent sheepishly showed {Q-Spades}{4-Spades} for air, giving Lee the nice pot.
