Bubble Tension

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We've pushed through the one-hour mark for Level 19 and to the scheduled break. However, the level will continue (blinds 2,500/5,000, ante 500) without pause until there is one more elimination and the bubble bursts.

So far we've seen three hands dealt without anyone being at risk as yet. Meanwhile, it appears Gregory Burns is currently sitting with the most chips among the 55 remaining players with a stack of out 530,000.

Borrero Bounced

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We were stuck on 57 players for quite some time, gathered around seven tables. Finally another elimination has come.

Following a middle-position raise by Daniel Rohde, it folded around to Miguel Borrero in the big blind who reraised all in. Rohde called, showing {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, and Borrero flipped over {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}.

The flop came {Q-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}, hitting Borrero's ace. But the turn was the {J-Diamonds} to complete a straight for Rohde, and after the {Q-Diamonds} river we are now down to 56.

Glantz Doubles Up, Controversy Follows

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We just had in interesting situation develop over at Matt Glantz's table. Glantz doubled through one of our big stacks, Jason Acosta, when his {2-}{2-} held up against Acosta's {a-}{10-} all in preflop. However, it wasn't until another hand was dealt and completed that the controversy occurred.

Glantz counted out his chips, and realized that he was 10,000 short. The all in total was for 58,500, meaning that he should have 128,500 total. However, when he counted out his chips, he only had 118,500, meaning he was 10,000 short.

The floor who was watching the double up came over, and said that while she didn't hear how much the total was, she did confirm that Acosta had only put out seven grey chips, meaning he was indeed 10,000 short. The floor told Acosta to give the 10,000 over, but he refused, saying "you can't rewind the action after a hand has already been played."

Acosta asked for another floor to be called over, and the original floor went off to find the main floor man. All this time, there was no hand being dealt at this table, and a short time later, play was stopped at all tables until the situation was sorted out. Eventually, the main floor came over, and made the same ruling, telling Acosta to send the 10,000 over.

Once again, Acosta said he would not do it, presenting the same argument he did before. By this point, the entire table was getting restless, and was telling Acosta to simply pay the 10,000 since he was not going to get a different ruling. Eventually, Acosta resigned to his fate, handed over the 10,000, and said "that's the worst ruling in history."

After all the dust settled, Glantz got his full double up to 128,500, while Acosta dropped down to 270,000. When it was all done, Christian Harder joked from a nearby table "favorable ruling for the super star!" Much of the table got a laugh out of that, except for Acosta of course.

Modlin Mowed Down

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Alas for Ed Modlin, as soon as we noted his big double up with kings versus queens, he found himself vying for another big pot against Gregory Burns, and that time came up on the short end.

Burns was all in following a {2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Spades} flop with {A-Spades}{2-Spades} (a flush draw and deuces) against Modlin's {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} (set of fives). The {3-Spades} then fell on the turn to complete Burns's flush, and after the {Q-Diamonds} river Modlin was down to just 45,000.

Soon after that Modlin found himself all in and at risk against three opponents, holding {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts} while they had {A-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. The board ran out {K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{J-Spades}{6-Clubs}{K-Hearts}, and just like that Modlin is out just a few spots shy of the cash.

Roller Coaster for Panitch

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Robert Panitch held the post dinner chip lead, but he lost a good chunk of that when he doubled up Greg Masters. However, he just picked off a river bluff that has him back up over 400,000.

The action started with an under the gun limp. Panitch was next to act, and he put out a raise to 14,000. Everyone else got out of the way, but the under the gun player quickly called the raise.

The dealer fanned out a {9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop, and it was checked to Panitch, who fired out 25,000. His opponent made the call, and the turn brought the {8-Clubs}. The same action happened here, with the under the gun player check calling a bet, this time 80,000. The river brought the {j-Diamonds}, and Panitch's opponent decided now was the time to fire. It was a small bet of 40,000, and Panitch snap called as soon as the chips move forward.

His opponent could only table {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for two busted draws, while Panitch showed {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for nines full. After starting the hand less then 300,000, Panitch is now back up to 420,000.

Modlin on the Move

Level 19 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Ed Modlin, who final tabled the WSOP Circuit Harrah's Atlantic City Main Event back in December (finishing eighth), just earned a hefty double-up to improve his chances at making it to another WSOP-C AC Main Event final table.

All in with {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} versus an opponent's {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, the board came nine-high — {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs} — and Modlin now is up to about a quarter million.

Flop Hits Harder

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

As Matt Glantz wandered over from the neighboring table, Christian Harder open-raised all in for 63,500 from the cutoff seat. As it folded to the blinds, players at the table joked that Glantz was there to coach Harder.

Glantz pointed out there really wasn't much coaching left to be done, as Harder had already made his last decision of the hand. Then he thought of some advice.

"Don't fold," he said with a grin.

As it happened, the small blind reraised all in to chase the big blind, and Harder was at risk with his {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} versus {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. But the {4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop quickly minimized the drama, giving Harder a set, and after the {Q-Hearts} turn and {10-Diamonds} he had earned a needed double-up.
