Nothing Like a Cooler to Start the Day

Jesse Capps has already lost half of his stack here on Day 1b of the 2013 World Series of Poker Circuit Event Choctaw Durant Main Event. Capps was kind enough to let us in on the details, and according to him, he and an opponent took a flop of {a-}{a-}{4-}. Capps called a bet with {a-}{j-}, and the turn was a {k-}.

Capps' opponent proceeded to check-raise on the turn, and Capps made the call.

The river was "a blank," and Capps' opponent led out for a pot-sized bet of 7,000. Capps called, and the player showed ace-king.

"I wish we were at 500/1,000," Capps told us. "I just want to get my stack in now."

Three-Time Bracelet Winner in the Tournament... but Not as a Player

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Nani Dollison at the 2012 WSOP.
Nani Dollison at the 2012 WSOP.

Nani Dollison is a familiar face on the poker circuit, but not as a player. Dollison, who has three World Series of Poker gold bracelets to her name, is now known as one of the most capable dealers in the industry.

While Dollison has eight WSOP cashes totaling $600,515, they all came over a decade ago. Her three gold bracelets for victories in the 2000 $1,000 Ladies Limit Hold’em & 7 Card Stud ($53,200); 2001 $2,000 Limit Hold’em ($441,440); and 2001 $1,000 Ladies Limit Hold’em & 7 Card Stud ($41,130). In the open-event ($2,000 Limit Hold’em) win, Dollison actually defeated a final table that included Eli Elezra (6th-$41,760), Hung La (4th-$71,585) and Chau Giang (3rd-$113,345).

Dollison is poker through and through and has left her mark on the industry not only as a dealer, but as a legendary female player as well.

Small Pot for Engel

Four-time WSOP Circuit ring winner Ari Engel played in yesterday's field, but he made an early exit. Today, Engel has opted to fire a second bullet and is back in action.

In a recent hand, there was 650 in the pot and a board reading {10-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{4-Spades} when Engel bet 300 from middle position and received a call from the woman in the hijack. Both players then checked the {7-Clubs} turn, and the {3-Hearts} completed the board on the river. Engel bet a modest 250, and his opponent made the call. Engel tables {J-Spades}{10-Spades} for a pair of tens, and it was good as his female foe sent her hand to the muck.

Getting There With Eight-Three

When we reached Table 20, the board was {j-Clubs}{8-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. A player led out for 1,100, Tana Karn raised to 2,200, and Khoueng Souvoravong made the call. The player who led out then moved all in for 20,000 or so, and Karn called all in, committing his last 14,000.

Souvoravong tanked for no more than 20 seconds, and called all in as well for around 10,000.

Player 1: {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Karn: {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Souvoravong: {8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

The dealer rapped the table, then spiked the {2-Clubs} on the river, giving Souvoravong a club flush.

Karn was eliminated, while Souvoravong now has around 35,000 chips.

Sengphet Takes a Big Hit

La Sengphet has become synonymous with the WSOP Circuit as her and her boyfriend, David Clark, travel to most stops. Given Choctaw is just north of their hometown of Dallas, it's no surprise to see both in today's field. Unfortunately, Sengphet just experienced a major setback.

In one of the last hands before the level went up, we caught the action on the river with 9,000 in the pot and a board reading {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}. Austin Buchanan had just bet 8,500 from the big blind and action was on Sengphet. She sat in silent contemplation for a solid minute before tossing in a call with two grey T5,000 chips. Buchanan then rolled over {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} for aces full of jacks, and Sengphet flashed {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} before sending her cards to the muck.
