Huge Field Today and Still Lined Up!

Today is going to be action packed. The field is already over 2,400 entrants. Stay tuned for all the updates and chip counts. The event is scheduled to begin at noon, but since they are still signing up, we will see. The door is open and here they come.

The Dead Money Parade

While eating breakfast at the Sao Paulo Cafe adjacent to the Rio Convention Center, the cacophany of the "dead money parade" heading down the hallway toward the Amazon Room was impossible to ignore. Guys in baseball caps and sports jerseys, Hawaiian shirts and online poker swag trudged toward their tables, their "game faces" already on. Some made last-minute phone calls to their wives or their poker buddies to fend of their nerves. Others barked last night's bad beat story to whomever would listen.

Today's field is sure to be huge, perhaps even a record-setter as 2500+ homegame heroes and weekend warriors sit alongside some of the world's greatest players and take their shot at a WSOP bracelet.

With H.O.R.S.E. on Tap, Don't Expect the Biggest Names

With the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. tournament set to get underway tomorrow, most of the big names are skipping this event, as their calendars have been marked for Sunday for a long time. With 2,540 players starting today, plus alternates, we might get 2,800 or 2,900 players. Don't count on knowing more than maybe 75 or 100 names in this field.

Notables in the Field

So far we've spotted Kenna James, Scott Clements, David Plastik, Vanessa Selbst, Kathy Liebert, Steve Paul-Ambrose, Jennifer Tilly, Amnon Filippi, Lee Watkinson, Isaac Haxton, Mikael Thuritz, J.C. Tran, Eugene Todd, Burt Boutin, John Murphy, Joe Sebok, Davidson Matthew, and Michael Binger.
