Case of the Missing Chips: Volume IV

I just spoke with one of the tournament directors about the issue that came up during the dinner break involving a missing chip stack. Here's what we found out:

The incident today was the fourth time someone has reported missing chips during the entire 2007 WSOP.

Each of the four incidents occurred during the last hand before the dinner break.

Two of the first three instances were unintentional; one was deliberate.

Today's situation was unusual, but falls into the unintentional category, according to both the tournament staff and surveillance crew.

The "suspect," if you will, who was standing up at the time, had just won the pot. In one fell swoop, he picked up the bet he had cut in front of him, and then proceeded to pick up the entire stack of the player next to him, who'd already left for dinner. After that, he stacked up the chips that were pushed to him by the dealer.

The tournament staff handled the situation very professionally, taking the player out of the tournament area to discuss the issue. Both the tournament staff and surveillance crew gave the player the "benefit of the doubt," attributing the error to the excitement of the moment.

The chips have been returned to the affected player; 1,500 of them to be exact. The "suspect:" has been allowed to continue playing in the tournament.

Case closed.

Chris Ferguson Out

Ferguson Eliminated
Ferguson Eliminated
After spending most of the day pinballing between this event and the 2-7 Triple Draw, Chris Ferguson has been eliminated. Pushing preflop with A-J Chris ran into a big blind with pocket kings. The kings held up and Chris is now free to concentrate on his other tournament.

Mizrachi's Trap

After limping into a series of pots and then folding to a raise, Michael Mizrachi limped again, asking the table "Which one of you is gonna raise me off this time?" The small blind took the bait and moved all in with {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and Michael insta-called with {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. The rockets held up and The Grinder is up to 48,000.

Wild Man on Table 5

About every ten minutes or so, a loud and somewhat obnoxious "WHOOOOOOO!" can be heard from anywhere inside the giant confines of the Amazon Room.

The source of this noise is a man named John Saini, who is easily the most vocal player in the room at the moment. Saini's antics have gained the attention of practically every table in the room, as much of the table talk we've overheard has been centered around him.

The floor has approached him with a warning, which has calmed him for the moment -- but we'll let you know if it lasts.

590 Left

Tournament staff have just announced that there are 590 players remaining, they also announced that the hand-for-hand process would begin once we hit 500.

Those that were listening laughed, the Tournament Director then said hand-for-hand would begin around 330.

Shannon Shorr Makes a Big Laydown

Shannon Shorr raised to 1,800 from middle position and the big blind called. The two were heads-up to the flop of {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{J-Spades}. The big blind checked and Shorr bet 2,700. The big blind thought for a bit, then pushed out 6,500 total. Shorr contemplated briefly, then threw his hand away. He is still very much in control with around 44,000.

Johan Storakers Takes a Hit

Johan Storakers raised to 1,900 from early position. Action folded around to the cutoff seat who pushed all in for 5,450 total. Storakers made the call. The players turned up...

Storakers: {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Neither player connected with the board and the player in the cutoff took down the pot with ace high. Storakers is now down to about 13,500.
