After being dealt 2-3-4-7 before the draw, Noah Jefferson drew one. He squeezed his card ever so slowly and upon discovering it was a 5, he proudly held up his wheel and showed it to the table with a smile.
Gus Hansen raised to 2,200 from the small blind and Daniel Alaei called from the big blind. Hansen drew two while Alaei drew one. Hansen checked, Alaei bet 6,000 and Hansen called. Hansen showed a jack-low and Alaei took it down with a ten-low.
After the confusion this morning regarding some of the stacks being blindied off and not others, we talked to Daniel Negreanu on first break from the $5,000 2-7 event to get clarification on exactly what the ruling was, and also his thoughts on whether it was fair.
Phil Hellmuth raised to 2,000 from middle position and Bob Bright called from the button. Hellmuth drew one and Bright drew one. Hellmuth bet 4,000 post-draw and Bright called. Hellmuth showed a 9-8 low, but Bright had the best hand with a 9-5 and took the pot.
Phil Hellmuth moved all in for 20,300 before the draw and Doyle Brunson called. Hellmuth drew one and Brunson stood pat. Brunson showed T-8-5-3-2, but Hellmuth had him beat with 9-7-4-3-2.
After the hand, Hellmuth was up to 50,000 while Brunson was down to 10,700.
