Gowen Goes Out

Clonie Gowen
Clonie Gowen
Clonie Gowen was short-stacked, and made her stand with {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts} from the big blind. She was tangling with Pat White, button player, who held {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}, racing to knock out the pro.

The board came down {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades}, safe so far. But the river card, {9-Clubs}, four-flushed the board and gave White the win, sending Gowen home a tad earlier than she would have preferred.

Bach Not Afraid to Mix it Up

Now that he has amassed the biggest stack in Day 1b, David Bach is playing lots of pots on Blue #6. We caught up with another sizable pot just as the river came down in a hand between Bach and Mark Vos. On a board of {5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, Vos bet 4,500. Bach called and then mucked when Vos showed him two more hearts for a queen-high flush.

Mercier is Out

Isabelle Mercier
Isabelle Mercier
Another major hand from Blue #6 saw David Bach eliminate Isabelle Mercier. His jacks overtook her aces when a jack spiked on the river. Mercier seemed stunned after the river came down, standing and staring at the board for several moments. Then she collected her things and declared, "I'll be back in seven weeks!" before heading for the exit.

Vos Rolls Again

Mark Vos
Mark Vos
The battle has remained joined between the pros on Blue #6. The latest combatants were Mark Vos and David Bach.

Bach raised preflop to 1,600. Vos called from the small blind. Both players checked after the flop came {4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. The turn of {4-Diamonds} elicited a check from Bach and a bet of 2,500 from Vos. Bach made the call.

Bach checked a river of {K-Hearts}. Vos fired again, this time for 5,600. Bach called and then quietly mucked when Vos showed him {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Vos raked the pot and now stands at 56,000 in chips.

Arnold Spee Mixes It Up

The money went in preflop and it was {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for Arnold Spee and {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for his lone opponent. The flop came {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs} changing Spee's outs completely. The {3-Spades} was no help to either player, but the {K-Clubs} on the river made Broadway for Spee, besting his opponent's flopped set. As he stacked his chips, which now hover around 37,000, he commented, "That was skill," later adding, "I knew the straight was coming, so..."

Bunkley Likes the Turn

After losing a few recent pots, Antuan Bunkley turned his luck around against Daniel Alaei. Bunkley raised to 1,700 from late position. Alaei, sitting in the small blind, was the only caller. Both players checked a flop of {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs} and saw a turn of {Q-Diamonds}. Alaei led out for 2,500 but had to fold when Bunkley popped it to 8,000.

Bunkley is currently at 42,000.

Bach is Huge

We found this hand on the flop, with one player already all in, and David Bach involved in a side pot with another player. The flop was showing {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, and the turn card fell as we joined the action, {8-Clubs}.

David Bach checked over to his opponent, who bet 10,000. Bach came back with a check-raise to 25,000, which the other player called. The river brought the {K-Spades}, and Bach fired out a covering bet of 18,000. His opponent made the all-in call, and the players turned their hands up. The all-in player turned over a flush with the {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}, but was destroyed by Bach's bigger flush, {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}.

After this action, two players have been eliminated, and David Bach appears to be our new Day 1b chip leader. He currently stands right around 100,000. It is difficult to count his oddly-stacked chips, but if that is correct, he is our first player to crack that milestone today.

Liz Lieu Eliminated

Liz Lieu
Liz Lieu
Exact details are unclear, but after a preflop raise, Liz Lieu got all her chips in the middle on K-10-X flop and her pocket aces were no good against the K-10 of her opponent. The turn and river missed Miss Lieu and she was eliminated.
