Earlier we saw several bustouts right in a row. Since that point, play has slowed down quite a bit. With only 21 players left, thoughts are beginning to shift to making the final table. As a result, some players are playing tighter than they have up to this point and some of the shorter stacks are planning their time to strike to try and build some chips.
Kevin Saul has been eliminated from today's event. On seventh street, Saul was sitting with tens full. Unfortunately, the game was razz. He will receive $7,998 for his efforts.
With five overcards on the board and no low hand, Jens Voertmann has just made an amazing call holding only pocket fours against JJ Hazan. Remarkably the fours were good as Hazan showed A-2-2-3.
"How can you call there? I had the only hand you beat!" questioned a shocked Hazan as Voertmann tried to explain his reasoning to the table!
Tom Schneider made it two bets to go on third street and Blair Rodman made the call. Schneider proceeded to bet out on both fourth and fifth street, and Rodman called each time. On sixth street, the board were as follows:
Rodman:
Schneider:
Rodman bet out with his pair of queens and received a call. On the river, Rodman bet out again and Schneider made yet another call. Rodman showed ( ) for queens full. Schneider mucked.
After the hand Rodman is up to 145,000 chips, while Schneider is down to 47,000.
Steve Zolotow was the bring-in and Rostislav Tsodikov limped showing an eight. Every one else folded and the two players went to fourth street. Tsodikov paired his eight and bet out. Zolotow checked his hole cards and folded saying, "I better fold in case he has four eights!"
This drew a chuckle from the table, but not as much as when Tsodikov flashed the other two eights in the hole as he did indeed have quad eights!
Unfortunately for Tsodikov the excitement of the hand was bigger than the pot!
Mickey Appleman has just doubled up through Farzad Rouhani after making a straight with a board of (J-10-X) 8-7-9-K. Rouhani was showing 2-4-8-2 but threw the river card back at the dealer in disgust when he saw Appleman make the straight and realized he was drawing dead.
