One Last Stand

The players are once again back in their chairs, and we are playing two more levels of each game before play concludes for the evening.

Forrest Draws Juanda

John Juanda Eliminated
John Juanda Eliminated
We wandered over to a hand between Ted Forrest and John Juanda with the flop showing {8-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}. Forrest bet out 1,400, and Juanda smooth-called.

The turn was the {4-Hearts}, and Forrest bet the full pot, enough to put Juanda all in. Juanda did indeed make the call, showing down {10-Spades} {9-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {4-Spades}. Forrest tabled {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {J-Spades} {9-Diamonds}. Both men had big draws and Juanda needed to hit his to stay alive.

The river did hit his straight when the {10-Hearts} fell, but it hit Forrest harder, giving him the nut flush.

Juanda headed for the rail, while Forrest has taken those chips and worked his stack up to 31,000.

Leif Forced Out

Leif Force has just been eliminated from the tournament holding {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}. He and another player got it all in preflop, and his opponent held {A-Clubs} {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {8-Hearts}.

The board came down {10-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {K-Hearts}, giving his opponent trip kings, and sending Force to the exit.

Juanda Picks One Off

A player under the gun raises to 1,000, and John Juanda reraises, making it 3,000 to go. The next player to act moves all in for his last 1,900, and the original raiser folds, so it's Juanda heads up with an at-risk player. The hands are turned over:

Juanda: {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}
Opponent: {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}

The flop fails to save the player from elimination, as it runs out {8-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {3-Hearts} {A-Spades} {6-Spades}, holding up Juanda's kings. After the hand, he has chipped up to 9,000.

Annie Duke Eliminated

Annie Duke and Andy Bloch got all in preflop, with Bloch's {J-?} {J-?} well ahead of Duke's {9-?} {9-?}. With a player informing her that he had folded another nine, Duke was left drawing to a single out, which she failed to find.

With her exit, the hopes of the Lederer/Duke family ride on brother Howard to take down this title.

Mrs. Antonius Eliminated

Maya Antonius has been eliminated, but she is still all smiles as she heads out of the room.

She had lost a pot prior to this hand, and was left pushing all in preflop with {Q-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} on a short stack. She was called down by an opponent with {A-Clubs} {3-Clubs}.

The board missed her as it came down {6-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. Maya wished her table luck and made her way towards the rail.

Forrest Buys a Yacht

We caught just the tail end of this hand, but it is certainly noteworthy.

Ted Forrest and another player were looking at a board of {3-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. The unknown player bet out, Forrest raised, his opponent reraised all in, and Forrest made the call.

The player confidently turned over {2-Spades} {2-Diamonds} for a full house, but Forrest was unimpressed. He tabled {5-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}, giving him the bigger boat, and sending his opponent to the exit.

After the hand, Forrest sits with approximately 25,500 in front of him.
