Three-Way

From under the gun, Chris Ferguson raises it up to a friendly 700. Maybe a little too friendly though, he gets five callers to come with him.

The six players see a flop of {J-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. Ferguson leads out for 2,500. One player calls, and the button, Nick Frank, moves all in for an additional 3,550. Ferguson is next again, and he moves all in for another 8,150 on top. The original caller overcalls both bets as well, and the three men turn over their hands:

Ferguson: {9-Hearts} {10-Spades} {J-Spades} {Q-Spades}
Frank: {8-Spades} {8-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}
Overcaller: {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {7-Clubs}

The turn is the {6-Diamonds}, and the river is the {J-Diamonds}. Frank wins the main pot with his full house, Ferguson wins the side pot with trips, and the third opponent is crippled when he fails to connect with his flush draw.

As a result of that hand, Ferguson moved up a little bit and now sits at 16,300.

Jordan Morgan and the Three Sixes

A player in middle position limps in, and Jordan Morgan raises from the cutoff, making it 900 to go. The limper gets frisky, and reraises the full pot, which Morgan calls.

The flop brings {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}, and the player leads out with a pot-sized bet. Morgan raises it up, enough to put his opponent all in. He makes the call, showing {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {2-Spades}. Morgan, however, nailed the flop and he shows {6-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {10-Spades} for trips.

The turn and river come {8-Clubs}, {7-Hearts}, locking it up for Morgan.

When the dust settles, Morgan has knocked his opponent out of the tournament, and chipped his way up to 37,350, quite near the top of the standings.

A New Leader Emerges

Dustin Sitar
Dustin Sitar
We have a new early chip leader.

Two players were heads up on a flop showing {8-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. Dustin Sitar bet out 875, and his opponent raised it up an additional 2,700. Sitar came back over the top all in, and the other player called, turning over {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}.

Sitar was well ahead with his top set: {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {4-Spades} {7-Spades}. The turn and river were the {9-Spades} and {J-Spades}, and Sitar drags in a big pot, moving himself up to the 40,000, and the big stack in the room.

"G" Stands For Gone

"Tony G" Guoga and another player got it all in preflop and racing. He held {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}, while his opponent had the two overs, {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}.

Tony G fell behind on the flop, and failed to catch up as the board ran out {6-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {5-Spades}. After struggling to get much going today, Tony G is headed out just past the midway point of Day 1.

David Chiu Eliminated

From the cutoff, David Chiu opens with a pot raise to 1,050. The big blind calls, and the two men are heads up to the flop.

The dealer spreads the {J-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {8-Clubs}, and the big blind leads out with a covering bet of 225. Chiu makes the call, putting himself all in and at risk of elimination, turning over {K-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}. His opponent has him drawing slim with his {Q-Spades} {J-Spades}.

The turn and river come {6-Clubs}, {9-Diamonds} failing to save Chiu, and sending him out of here early.

People to See, Things to Do

Well, maybe he had somewhere else to be.

From under the gun, Ivey raised the pot blind, and another player reraised him all in from position.

Ivey made the call, tabling {6-Spades} {9-Hearts}, and was at risk against his opponent's {A-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}.

The board ran out {7-Spades} {2-Spades} {K-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}, and Ivey stood up and quickly walked out of the room.

Welcome to the Game

Well, he's not wasting any time trying to earn back his blinds.

Phil Ivey just sat down and played his very first hand against the aforementioned Ted Forrest. Forrest limped in from middle position, and Ivey raised to 1,200 from the small blind.

The flop came {9-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {J-Clubs}, and both men checked.

The turn brought the {K-Spades}. Ivey fired out this time with a bet of 1,000, enough to take down his first pot of the event. He still has some work to do to get back to his starting stack though, but he is getting closer now at 4,100.

Poison Ivey

Phil Ivey has decided to join our field here, just a tad under 5 hours late. He has been blinded down to 3,200 and has drawn a table with Ted Forrest, not a good combination.
