"Steve! Steve! Come here!" Sam Khouiss yelled from across the room. Zolotow had walked off to check the score of the Lakers game after folding his hand at table Orange 19.

When Steve Zolotow got back, Sam showed him his third straight hand of pocket aces. He's flopped two sets with them already, twice against Steve Zolotow, and for his third time with them in a row he ran into pocket jacks, which managed to turn a set against him.

"I've got the usual again," he said once Steve returned to the table.

So much for the saying 'third time's the charm'...

Down, Then Up

There's a commercial where Jennifer Harman mucks two kings when an ace flops and her opponent gives off a glimmer of a tell. She did that just now in a hand where an ace flopped and she mucked her cowboys face up, leaving her with just 1,200 chips.

Her fold proved wise when she was able to double up a few hands later when she committed the last of her chips with {A-Spades}

and flopped a queen against an opponent holding pocket tens. She's now back up to 4,400.

Some Fireworks

As you might imagine, a table with Michael Mizrachi, Huck Seed and Theo Tran might see some confrontations. After a {5-Hearts}

flop, Mizrachi led out for 500 from the small blind and Seed raised to 1000 from the big blind. Theo Tran called, Mizrachi then three-bet and Seed and Tran called. The {3-Diamonds}

hit on the turn, Mizrachi bet 1,000 and Seed and Tran again called. The {6-Clubs}

fell on the river, Mizrachi bet 1,000 and Seed raised to 2,000. Tran folded, Mizrachi called, and learned that his pocket kings had lost to Seed's {A-Spades}

. Seed is now up to 32,000.

Ivey Eliminated

Preflop, the pot was raised to three bets with Ivey calling down heads-up. The flop ran 3-5-A and Ivey check-called to see a king fall on the turn. Ivey bet out, was raised, and called. Another king paired on the river and Ivey check-raised his opponent who called and showed A-K. Ivey mucked and was eliminated on the following hand after getting all his chips in with A-2 against an opponent who held 5-2 and flopped a five.

And I really mean it this time. Barry Greenstein just took his seat in today's event. The reason Barry was tardy is that he's the big chip leader with three players left in the $1,500 Razz event. He's spending his 30 minute dinner break playing in this event.

Here We Go Again

Just as during the end of the U.S. Open, the conclusion of Game 5 of the NBA Finals is attracting considerable interest from the players in today's event. Players keep leaving their tables to run over to the TV by media row to keep up to date on the action, and every basket and rebound is met with cheers and, occasionally, screams.

Nguyen Builds Back

Preflop, a player under the gun led out and an early position player raised. Scotty Nguyen called from the small blind and saw a flop of {A-Diamonds}

. Scotty led out first and the player under the gun folded, but the early position player made the call. The {8-Clubs}

fell on the turn and Scotty check-raised his opponent who called. The river was the {J-Spades}

, Scotty led out and his opponent called. Scotty turned over {10-Spades}

and his opponent mucked, putting Scotty back up to 14,000 after the hand.

Back to Poker

Eyes were glued to the large, widescreen televisions displaying the Laker game here in the Amazon room. Cheers erupted as the Lakers narrowly made it to game six. Immediately after, dozens of players returned to their seats and put their eyes back on the prize of this event.

In just the first four levels of this event we've managed to lose around ten players, with the field just barely standing over 200 remaining as we get ready for the dinner break.
