Been Here Before

As we near the end of the level, racks of green 25-denomination chips have accumulated and are stacked neatly in anticipation of a color-up. Only a seasoned World Series of Poker player would be so on point with the maturation of a tournament here at the Rio. Indicative of the class in the field, maybe?

Jett Cruising Right Along

Chip Jett
Chip Jett
On fourth street, Chip Jett raised his opponent's bet, which prompted a check-bet-call pattern throughout the rest of the hand.

Chip Jett: {5-Spades} {2-Spades} {7-Spades} {8-Diamonds} ({5-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds})
Opponent: {K-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {10-Spades} {9-Diamonds} showing

Chip's two pair was enough to move him to 23,000.

Jacks Take Out Two Players

David Singer survived into Level 7, but his day has come to an end. He got all of his money in the pot with an ace door card and buried sixes. He was called down by an opponent with buried jacks. Neither player improved.

On a different table, Phil Ivey was also eliminated by a pair of jacks. He was drawing to a straight, but it never came.

Grizzle Snuffs One Out

After a seventh street dark check from his opponent, Sam Grizzle, wary of a made hand, checked and tabled a flush. Grizzle's hunch was correct as his opponent revealed a full house.

Sam Grizzle: ({Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} ) {9-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {7-Clubs}
Opponent: ({Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {6-Clubs} ) {J-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {6-Diamonds}

FBT Cripples Brenes

We've had our first clash on Orange #10, the table with Humberto Brenes, Greg "FBT" Mueller and Amnon Filippi. Brenes took the worst of it.

Showing a board of {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}, Mueller led every street with a bet until sixth street, where he checked. Brenes, who had called the whole way with {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {9-Clubs}, seized the opportunity to bet. Mueller called.

On the river, Mueller checked it over to Brenes, who bet again. "I started rolled up, Humberto," said Mueller. "I'm gonna lose, but I have to call." Mueller showed {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {8-Spades} as his down cards, for trip aces.

Brenes revealed two of his own down cards: {9-Hearts} {9-Spades}, for trip nines, then mucked his hand. He is left with just over 1,000 chips, while Mueller climbs to 24,500.

Katja Cracks Aces

A happy Katja
A happy Katja
After betting the whole way Katja Thater revealed two pair, which was good enough to beat the pocket aces of her opponent.

Katja Thater: {J-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} ({5-?} {7-?} X)
Opponent: {Q-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {6-Spades} {9-Spades} ({A-?} {A-?} X)

Thater is up to 16,800 after the hand.
