Early Controversy

Once again it would appear that a player has misinterpreted the rules regarding showing up on time for a tournament. This time the player is David Williams. He was overheard bitterly complaining to a floor person about the fact that antes and bring-ins were removed from his stack before he got to the table.

The rule at the WSOP this year is quite simple: if a player registers for a tournament at any point up to the starting time of the tournament, his stack is put into play immediately. If a player does late registration for a tournament, he gets a full stack once he sits down at the table.

Williams, who registered early but showed up late, seemed angry that antes and bring-ins were removed from his stack. The floor told him his three options are: (1) play the stack on the table; (2) take a full refund of his buy-in; or (3) get a ruling from Jack Effel.

He elected to go talk to Effel.

Our Setup Today

We start play today in the Orange section of the Amazon room, utilizing tables 1-45 with seven players to a table. Looking out across the room, we can see several other empty seats besides the 7-seat at each table and would expect that, once late registration is completed, tables will begin breaking immediately.

Stud is widely known as an "old man's game", and while the median age of the players looks like it skews older than a typical no-limit hold'em event, it's not quite as old as one might expect.

5pm Start Time for Seven-Card Stud Event

The second half of Wednesday's WSOP doubleheader is Event 35, $1,500 Seven-Card Stud. The stud event gets underway at 5pm in the Amazon Room, and will go its first eight 60-minute levels of play the first night.

Last year's event drew 385 entrants, and was won by Michael Keiner, who collected $146,987 along with the champion's bracelet.
