Nguyen Takes Huge Lead

Preflop, Peter Nguyen made it 11,000 to go and two players called. The flop came {J-Diamonds}

and one of the players, from mid-position, led out for 16,000. Both Peter and the other player called. The turn brought the {8-Diamonds}

and Peter led out for 50,000 when the player, who had been in the small blind, moved all in for 60,000. The player in mid-position folded, while Peter ended up making the call.

Peter showed {K-Clubs}

for top pair while his opponent showed {Q-Diamonds}

for a straight draw and second-nut flush draw. The board bricked on the river and Peter scooped the huge pot, putting his chip stack well over 370,000.

James Breaks 200

After starting the day with only 32,000 in chips, 'James' JianHuan Chen has moved up to 210,000. Most recently he was seen increasing his chip stack after making a move against Young Phan on a board of {4-Clubs}

. Phan check-raised Chen for 35,000 and Chen quickly made it 150,000. Phan laid the hand down and Chen is among the chip leaders at 210,000.

Taking the A Tran

The table folded around to Hevad Khan, who limped on the button. The small blind folded, then David Tran raised to 6,000 from the big blind. Khan pushed all in, and Tran thought about what to do. He had about 80,000 behind, and Khan had him covered. Finally, he made the call.

Tran showed {A-Diamonds}

, and Khan {4-Spades}

. The flop came {2-Spades}

and the turn {2-Diamonds}

. Tran was in dire straits. But the river brought the {A-Clubs}

, and he doubled up to 168,000. Khan is down to 30,000.

Shortly after the previous hand, Hevad Khan picked up pocket kings and doubled up through David Tran's Big Slick. Khan is back up to 110,000, and Tran back down to 92,000.

for the open-ended straight draw and a backdoor flush draw. His opponent held {K-Hearts}

on the river gave Black the straight and Fields was out. Black is now up to 240,000.

Before he left, Fields pulled out a camera and took a picture of the board. "I currently have a dislike for the Irish," he joked as he made his way to the payout table.

The Crowd Gathers

Before we left for dinner break, there was a small gathering here in the Brasilia room to watch the 70-odd players remaining. However, since returning from dinner, a massive crowd of onlookers have stumbled in here and are all huddled along the rail to get a glimpse of the event.

It's rather interesting to see so many spectators here, especially with the H.O.R.S.E final table going on just down the block.

What Might Have Been

Gerry Kane raised to 18,000 from under the gun, and Robert Vecchio called from the button. J.C. Tran then raised it up to 68,000 from the small blind. Kane got out of the way, and Vecchio pushed all in to 124,000. Tran called.

Tran showed {7-Clubs}

, while Vecchio tabled {J-Spades}

. The flop brought Tran his needed seven -- {5-Clubs}

and the river the {6-Clubs}

, and Vecchio hit the rail.

After the hand, Tran suggested that if Vecchio hadn't just smooth-called Kane's raise, he wouldn't have busted on the hand. In any event, Tran now has 340,000.
