James Mackey Takes a Hit

James Mackey
James Mackey
James Mackey raised to 300 from middle position and got a single caller from the button.

The flop came {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {5-Spades} and Mackey check-called a bet of 600. The turn came the {10-Spades} of Mackey checked-raised to 2,500 after his opponent bet 900. The river fell the {Q-Clubs} and Mackey check-called the 3,000 chip bet of his opponent.

The button flipped up {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} and Mackey mucked, left with just roughly 4,000 chips.

A Wild Ride

A few minutes ago a player was eliminated from the ESPN Final Table after a rather eventful afternoon. Imagine that you're playing in the Main Event and you report to your table...only to find that you're going to be playing to the TV cameras as well. You have to remember to show your cards to the hole-card cameras and refrain from scratching yourself in any embarrassing spots. And by the way, Scotty Nguyen is holding court and laughing along with the crowd as he takes your chips.

One player at the TV table lost nearly his entire stack when he moved all in after a king-high flop holding {A-?} {A-?}. His opponent had {K-?}{K-?} for top set and took all but 450 of his chips. That had to feel like a kidney punch, losing all those chips in a hand that'll probably end up on ESPN in a few months.

And the roller coaster continued--he managed to double up and then triple with his micro-stack in short order. Another double up and he might've been gotten back on his feet...but he lost a race with overcards against a medium pair and that was it.

So, quite an adventure. Out of the World Series of Poker Main Event before the first break but with some face time on ESPN and a couple of wild hands to talk about.

E.G. Harvin Eliminated

All in on a flop of {5-Hearts}{J-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, E.G. Harvin shows {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts} to his opponent's {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. The turn and river are {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and Harvin is out.

Harvin is best known for losing to Nenad Medic heads up at the 2006 WPT World Poker Finals.

Dawn Baleno Doubles Through Luis Velador

Dawn Baleno opened for a raise from UTG, the small blind moved all in for his remaining 2,000, Luis Velador called from the big blind and Baleno called. The flop was {10-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {4-Hearts}. Velador led out for 3,700, Baleno raised to 10,000 and Velador called. The turn was the {8-Clubs}. Velador checked, Baleno bet 10,000 (leaving herself less than 1,000 behind) and Velador called. Before the dealer could burn and turn the river card, Velador put Baleno all in in the dark and she quickly called.

Baleno {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}

Velador {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}

Small Blind {A-?} {J-?}

The river blanked out and Baleno dragged the monster pot, pushing her stack over the 50,000 mark. Velador found himself back down to 28,000 and the small blind hit the rail.

Look Who's Checking Out the Action

Chad from Event 33
Chad from Event 33
ESPN poker commentator Norman Chad is currently wandering around the room checking out the action and chatting up the players.

It is still unclear whether Chad and Phil Ivey are on speaking terms yet. For those of you unaware, Chad has repeatedly said that he will not speak to Ivey until Ivey wins the Main Event.

John Hennigan Stumbles

John Hennigan opened with a limp from the button before Michael Grassmugg raised it up to 400 from the big blind. Hennigan made the call.

The flop came {J-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Grassmugg led out for 1,200 with Hennigan making the call.

The turn brought the {8-Hearts} and this time Grassmugg fired out 2,700. Again Hennigan made the call.

The river was the {9-Spades} and Grassmugg fired a third bullet worth 5,000. Hennigan thought for a few moments before calling for the fourth time in the hand.

Grassmugg showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} which was good as Hennigan mucked his cards and slipped to 12,000.

Tens Work for Wroblewski

Anna Wroblewski
Anna Wroblewski
Anna Wroblewski bet out 400 from the button on a flop of {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and the small blind called. The turn brought {6-Clubs}. The SB checked, Wroblewski bet 1,100, and her opponent called.

Both checked the {4-Hearts} on the river. Wroblewski showed {Q-Clubs}{10-Spades} for top pair, and her opponent mucked. She's up to 24,000.

Veenboer Jamming on Broadway

The flop read {Q-Hearts} {J-Spades} {3-Clubs} while Jordy Veenboer jammed out to his music, bobbed his head, and bet out 625. His opponent, Jon Van Fleet, raised to 1,725. Veenboer tanked and then made the call.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The river was the {10-Diamonds} and Veenboer tossed out a nonchalant 3,000. Van Fleet made the call and Veenboer bobbed his head a little harder to the tune of the call as he rolled over {A-Hearts} {K-Spades} for the Broadway straight. Van Fleet mucked and Veenboer is now up to 27,500.

It Ended In Tears

All great shows come to an end and the Tom Dwan show has done just that after being axed part way through season one. The final two episodes went as follows:

We reached the table at the turn stage and the board read as {6-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}.

Dwan check-called Jean Claude Moussa's 2,500 before the river came {A-Diamonds}.

Once again Dwan check-called a bet, this time for 5,000 but mucked upon seeing Moussa's {6-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}.

The same two players saw a flop once more of {4-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {7-Spades}. Dwan led out for a 550 bet and called Moussa's min-raise to 1,100.

The turn came {10-Spades} prompting Dwan to check before Moussa bet 2,500. Dwan responded by moving all-in and Moussa called.

Dwan tabled {8-Spades} {10-Clubs} for top two pair.
Moussa tabled {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} for top pair and a draw to almost everything.

The river came {2-Hearts} to make the flush and eliminate Tom Dwan.

Moussa up to 39,000 now.

A-A vs. A-A

The UTG player raised to 250, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman reraised to 800, the cutoff made it 3,000 to go, the UTG player folded, Jaffrey moved all in and the cutoff called. Jaffrey turned up {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} while her opponent showed... {A-Clubs} {A-Spades}. The board ran out {Q-Clubs} {10-Spades} {9-Clubs} {4-Spades} {J-Spades} and they chopped the pot.
