Might Be a Long Day

For the players at Esther Rossi's table, that is. A few days ago Rossi finished fourth in the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. event. In a hand today she raised to 450 and the player on the button reraised to 1,350. Rossi called and then checked in the dark. The flop came {6-Hearts} {10-Spades} {7-Spades} and the button bet 1,900. Rossi then popped it to 5,000 and the button gave up his hand.

Kings Reign for Tran

J.C. Tran, from Event No. 49
J.C. Tran, from Event No. 49
J.C. Tran raised from early position before the flop and got a caller. The flop came {3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. Tran bet 600 and was called. The turn brought the {5-Diamonds}. This time Tran bet 1,000, and his opponent called again.

The river was the {3-Hearts}. Tran paused a moment, then bet 2,500. Again the call. Tran showed {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} and his opponent mucked.

After losing some chips early, Tran is back up to 21,000, just a bit over his starting stack. Tran is hoping to repeat his triumph of a few days ago when he successfully negotiated a field of over 2,700 to take down Event No. 49, a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event.

Ng Makes Big Slick Work

Evelyn Ng - Event #29
Evelyn Ng - Event #29
Evelyn Ng was heads up with a single opponent on a board of {8-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {2-Spades} {4-Clubs}. Her opponent bet 1,000 and she made a quick call.

The {K-Hearts} hit the river, and Ng called a bet of 2,000 from her opponent. She was shown {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}, but she had that beat, rolling over {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}. She took down the pot and now sits with just over 25,000 chips.

The flop is {7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and the big blind checks. Sabyl bets 300 and the big blind calls.

The turn is {Q-Clubs} and both check.

The river is {9-Diamonds} and the big blind bets 325. Sabyl calls.

The big blind shows {J-Spades}{9-Spades}, but Sabyl has {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and takes it. She's up to 32,000.

Shawn Sheikhan
Shawn Sheikhan

Money Goes to Money

Joe Hachem raised from early position and found a caller in late position before the flop came {9-Spades} {8-Spades} {3-Hearts}.

Hachem bet 1,500 before being raised to 3,000. He reraised it to 5,000 before being raised once more, up to 8,000. Hachem made the call, so the turn was dealt {4-Hearts}.

Hachem check-called his opponent's all-in bet holding {10-Hearts} {10-Spades} for an overpair to the board, but he was behind a flopped set with {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts}.

The river came {10-Diamonds}. Hachem made his miracle higher set and moves up to 46,000 as a result.

Sneaky Set Strikes Again

A player in middle position raised to 600, and David Pontier called behind him. The flop came {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. The preflop raiser bet 1,500, Pontier raised to 3,500, and the initial raiser pushed all in for 7,500 more.

Pontier thought a bit, then finally made the call. "I have a set," he said showing {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}. His opponent was in bad shape with {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}.

The turn {10-Hearts} and river {4-Clubs} didn't change things, and Pontier had eliminated his opponent.

Pontier took another small one off of Kevin O'Donnell shortly afterwards. He's now up to 37,000. O'Donnell is at 18,500.

Rich called a bet of 1,500 from his big blind opponent and the {4-Diamonds} hit the turn. Rich was facing a bet again, this time for 2,000, and he called it as well.

The river fell the {9-Clubs} and Rich's opponent checked to him. Jordan bet 3,000 and his opponent looked him up. Rich showed {9-Spades} {8-Spades} for the flopped straight and his opponent mucked. Rich chipped up to just over 32,000 on the hand.

Dmitri Nobles Chips Up Early

Dmitri Nobles raised to 375 and the player with the button called. The flop came {Q-Clubs} {J-Spades} {3-Spades} and Nobles check-called the button's 1,000 bet. The turn brought the {7-Diamonds}. Nobles came out betting 5,000 and the button called. The {4-Hearts} fell on the river and Nobles bet 6,000 of his 8,000 remaining chips. The button moved all in and Nobles called, and his {7-Spades} {7-Hearts} had made a set on the turn to beat his opponent's {Q-Clubs} {J-Spades} and top two pair. Nobles made a minor commotion as the pot was pushed his way and he's up to 32,700.
