John Caldwell Doubles Up

Ship it to Schecky
Ship it to Schecky
John Caldwell raised to 1,600, an early-position player called, and the small blind called. The flop was {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {4-Clubs}. The small blind checked, Caldwell bet 1,300, the small blind moved all in and Caldwell made the call.

Caldwell's {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades} was up against the small blind's {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} and held up through the {8-Diamonds} turn and the {4-Hearts} river. "Schecky" is now up to 35,000.

Good Game, Alex Jacob

Alex Jacob, in a Day 1 photo, was eliminated
Alex Jacob is out of the tournament. Most of the dirty work was done in a hand where he and one opponent were all in preflop. Jacob had {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} against his opponent's {J-Spades} {J-Diamonds} and couldn't connect with a board of {7-Spades} {5-Spades} {6-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {5-Hearts}. That hand left him with just 100 chips. He got them in with {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} against an opponent's {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}. Neither player improved.

Garvie Gets Aces... and Busts

Shaun Garvie on Day 1c
Shaun Garvie on Day 1c
Shaun Garvie came in raising to 3,000 from under the gun, and action folded all the way around to Thamir Akrawi in the big blind. He reraised all in, enough to cover Garvie. Shaun had about 23,000 chips left and put them all into the middle, flipping over {A-Clubs} {A-Spades} . Akrawi was in bad shape with his {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}.

Things turned sour quickly for Garvie, though. The board came down {6-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {K-Spades} {3-Hearts} {Q-Spades}. That third king right on the flop spelled disaster for him, and he makes a disappointed trip towards the exit.

Got it Quietly

Hevad Khan raised it up to 1,600 and found two callers before the flop came {6-Spades} {4-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. Khan continued his aggression with a 4,100 bet and found one caller before the next player to act moved all in for 16,600. Only Khan called the bet with {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades} and he was ahead of his opponent's {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs}.

The turn came {K-Hearts} and the river came {Q-Diamonds} to give the pot to Khan, eliminating his opponent in the meantime. He's up to 96,000 now.

Adam Levy Doubles Up

Adam "Roothlus" Levy
Adam "Roothlus" Levy
An early-position player made it 1,900 to go, Adam Levy moved all in for 14,000 and the EP player called. Levy's pocket sixes were racing with his opponent's {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts}. The flop was {4-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {2-Spades}, the turn was the {J-Clubs}, giving the lead to the EP player, but the {6-Spades} spiked on the river, making Levy a set. He raked in the pot and doubled up to 31,000.

Bellande and Dunst Do Battle

Jean-Robert Bellande from day 1d
Jean-Robert Bellande from day 1d
Tony Dunst raised to 1,800 on the button and Jean-Robert Bellande called from the big blind. The two players took the flop of {Q-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} and both checked.

The turn was the {3-Clubs} and Bellande checked to Dunst. Dunst bet 1,800 and then Bellande raised him up. He made it 4,200 to go. Dunst made the call.

The river was the {2-Clubs} and Bellande quickly bet 8,000. Dunst raised to 23,000. Bellande shrugged and leaned back, taking a sip of his water in the process. He then folded and shrugged again as if to say "oh well."

Bellande dropped to 36,000 on the hand and Dunst moved up to 56,000.
