Lisa Parsons Doubles Up

Day 5 has not started smoothly for Keith Ferrera. He raised to 27,000 from middle position and Rafael Caiaffa called from the button and Lisa Parsons from the big blind. The flop came {8-Clubs}

and after Parsons checked Ferrera bet 49,000. Caiaffa folded and Parsons called. She also check-called when Ferrera bet 84,000 when the {7-Hearts}

turned, and when the {7-Spades}

came on the river and Ferrera bet 45,000 to set Parsons all in, she again made the call.

And scooped the pot when her {K-Hearts}

was good enough to make Ferrera muck his hand. He's now down to 800,000 and Lisa is up to around 700,000.

Diren Yildiz Eliminated

We caught up to this hand on the flop. With the board reading {A-Diamonds}

and all of Diren Yildiz's chips in the pot, he rolled over {7-Clubs}

for bottom set. Much to Yildiz's dismay, his lone opponent, Toni Judet, tabled {10-Spades}

for middle set.

The turn and river fell the {2-Spades}

and

respectively and Diren Yildiz was eliminated. Judet is now a force with about 1,800,000 chips.

Corkins Not So Sweet to Sweeting

Hoyt Corkins, one of the "name" pros still alive in the field, has sent Neil Sweeting to the rail. Corkins raised to 25,000 from early position. Sweeting, as next to act, reraised all in for 159,000. Action folded back to Corkins, who made an easy call with {A-Hearts}

. Sweeting showed {6-Clubs}

and showed some life when the flop came down {A-Clubs}

. The

on the turn slammed the door shut on Sweeting. The board finished out {4-Spades}

Corkins now has about 440,000 chips.

Anthony Meeker Eliminated

A short-stacked Anthony Meeker made his stand and moved all in before the flop holding {A-Diamonds}

. Tom Cope looked him up and tabled {J-Hearts}

.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}

giving Meeker a pair but Cope top set. Meeker was drawing to running eights that never came and was eliminated. Cope chipped up to just under 425,000 on the hand.

Cort Kibler-Melby Doubles Up

Here we had your classic race situation--Cort Kibler-Melby's {A-Spades}

against Cedrick Kolstad's {Q-Hearts}

--and this time Big Slick triumphed as the flop came {9-Diamonds}

and Kibler-Melby's hand held to double him to 470,000.

Jerry Cusick Eliminated

Jerry Cusick joined the list of early Day 5 casualties. He got the last of his chips in before the flop holding {9-Hearts}

but ran into the {J-Hearts}

of Matthew Jensen.

The board ran out {A-Hearts}

and Cusick's nines were second best. He hit the rail while Jensen climbed to just over 500,000 chips.

Hai Bo KOed

A short-stacked Hai Bo Chu shoved his last 90,000 in the middle and was called by Nghia Le.

"I have nothing but live cards," said Chu, turning over {9-Hearts}

. "Or not," he added, seeing Le turn over his {Q-Hearts}

.

The flop came {5-Spades}

. "You got it," Chu conceded. The {2-Diamonds}

on the turn sealed the deal, and Chu is out.

Le, meanwhile, now has about 400,000.

One Good Turn Deserves...

flop and when Parsons checked Ferrera bet 84,000. Phillips called and Caiaffa and Parsons got out of the way. The turn brought the {9-Diamonds}

and both players checked, but when the {6-Hearts}

fell on the river Phillips led out for 80,000 and Ferrera looked him up. Phillips rolled over {K-?}

for the nut straight and Ferrera mucked.

Clark Eliminated by Silber

Tony Clark entered Day 5 somewhat short. He leaves it after just ten minutes, completely busto.

Alexander Kostritsyn opened the pot with a raise to 25,000. Tony Clark, in middle position, reraised for his whole stack, a total of 391,000. Action folded to to Reagan Silber in the small blind, who called. Kostritsyn was not interested in pursuing the matter further and folded. With him out of the way, the players opened their hands:

Clark: {9-Spades}

Silber:

Clark found himself on the wrong end of a pair versus pair situation. He couldn't improve when the board ran out {2-Diamonds}

. He is out of the tournament. Silber crested the 1,000,000-chip mark with that elimination.

Jon Friedberg Doubles through Lou Esposito

Jon Friedberg just picked up a clutch double-up when he pushed all in from the cutoff and got action on his {A-Clubs}

.

Lou Esposito called him and showed {A-Spades}

and when the board helped neither player, Friedberg doubled to approximately 220,000 chips. Esposito was left with just about 160,000 chips after the hand.
