Vega Out in 30th Place

Hold'em

A series of reraises before the flop forced both Amnon Filippi and Tony Cousineau to fold, leaving Paul Parker and Alfredo Vega heads up, with Parker having Vega's 50,000 chips well covered.

Parker {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Vega {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}

The board came {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Spades}, giving Parker aces and the pot. Vega is out in 30th place. After the hand, Filippi said he'd folded pocket sevens, and Cousineau said he'd folded pocket eights. (Both would've hit sets.)

Parker is up to 180,000.

Arfa Out

Hold'em

In early position, Surinder Sunar limped into the pot first. Betting folded around to the cutoff seat where Hevad Khan popped it up to 12,000. In the big blind, David Arfa three-bet it up to 42,000. Sunar flat-called, but Khan thought it best to duck out of the way.

The flop came down {K-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}, and Arfa moved all in for his remaining 25,000. Sunar snap-called, turning over {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}. Arfa was at risk for his tournament life and very far behind with his {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. Looking to fill in his gutshot straight, Arfa watched the final board of his tournament fill out with the {Q-Hearts} and {Q-Spades}. Sunar's queens full was plenty good to win him the pot, chipping up to 210,000 and eliminating David Arfa in 31st place.

Fitting

There's a large screen television situated in the corner here in the front of the Amazon Room. Much earlier Game 1 of the NBA Finals was playing over there. The game is long over, but the TV continues to play on.

What's on? Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

A Mighty One for Amit

Omaha

Amit Makhija was just all in against Amnon Filippi after a {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop. Makhija held {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for sevens full of nines, while Makhija had {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades} -- trip nines and a straight draw that was no longer worth much.

The turn was the {J-Clubs} and river {5-Spades}, and Makhija pushes up to 165,000. Filippi now has 52,000.

Cowboy Up

Omaha

A player in mid position opened the pot with a raise to 6,400. Hoyt Corkins was on the button, and he three-bet the pot. Next to act was Bertrand Grospellier, and he raised all in over the top. The original raiser ducked out, but Corkins called the extra few thousand to put himself all in, giving ElkY a small rebate.

Showdown
Corkins: {Q-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {A-Spades}
Grospellier: {9-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {8-Spades}

Corkins was in deep trouble, but he would find salvation when the board ran out {J-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {K-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {10-Clubs}. The Cowboy made his Broadway straight on the river, earning a stay of execution on the final card. He has more than doubled up to 75,000, while Grospellier has been knocked back to 35,000.

Action?

That's how we feel too, buddy
That's how we feel too, buddy
It's about time for the ole "nothing is happening" post. We've gone about 20 minutes without any significant action whatsoever now, and a lot of the players seem distracted. Perhaps it's the dreaded "after-dinner coma" kicking in, or maybe the players are just content to try to fold their way up the pay scale. Either way, this period of inactivity can only drag on just so long.

At least, we hope so.

No Peekers for Parker

Omaha

The table folded around to Paul Parker, stylishly attired in hat, dress shirt, and vest, and he raised to 5,000 from the button -- just a tad more than the minimum raise at these blinds (1,200/2,400). Neither Jonathan Tamayo nor Amit Makhija were too interested in battling Parker from out of position in the blinds, and they both mucked.

Parker quickly flashed what appeared to be A-A-K-K before tossing his cards back to the dealer. "I was expecting two peekers... maybe one peeker," he said with a grin. Parker has about 98,000.
