T.J. Uses His Clout

T.J. Cloutier, down to pretty much the felt a few minutes back, has doubled up twice in a row, putting him back up to 24,000. The first double up was with {A-Spades} {8-Hearts} against Jason Koon's {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} on a {K-Spades} {3-Spades} {8-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} board, while the details of the second double up remain hazy. Nevertheless, 24,000 it is, and one Mr Phil Hellmuth has just been seated next to him.

Table of Doom

Mayrinck: Maridoom
Mayrinck: Maridoom
An interesting table has formed, what with all this moving around when players bust out and so on.

Currently sharing a table we have chip monsters Peter Rho and Zackary Weiler, as well as Jim Meehan and Maridu Mayrinck. Yikes...

Tapp Into Baker

A short-stacked Rodney Tapp has doubled through Mandy Baker, his {A-?} {K-?} coming good against Baker's pocket nines when an ace came on the river. I have never seen anyone look so relieved.

Meanwhile, on most tables play has tightened up considerably as we are now approaching the bubble.

Assorted Chip Counts

Jeffrey Vanchiro: 16,000
Thanh Chau: 100,000
Bobby Bresner: 130,000
Faraz Jaka: 22,000
Tommy Pope: 74,000
Scott Hall: 160,000
Perry Friedman: 51,000
Patrick Stemper: once again our chip leader on 201,000

Jan Skampas Away

Jan Skampa is another recent casualty in this pre-bubble period.

With 176 left, players are now being ordered, sorry, politely requested to stay in their seats, so that the TD can see come bubble time...

Monster Mercier Chip Accrual Gamble

Mercier - lucky boy
Mercier - lucky boy
Jason Mercier raised preflop and got looked up by Bobby Bresner. Come the {K-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {4-Clubs} flop, Mercier bet out and then pushed all in to a raise from Bresner; a call later and they were on their backs.

Bresner: {4-Diamonds} {4-Spades} for a set.
Mercier: {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} for nothing more than a flush draw.

Turn: {5-Hearts}
River: {3-Clubs}

Bink! Flush and 140,000 in chips for Mercier, a sad face and a drop down to 55,000 for Bresner.

Martin Cutler'd

A straightforward end to Dan Martin's tournament -- he got it in with {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}, Matthew Cutler had him dominated with {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}, and nothing at all changed down the {5-Clubs} {2-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {4-Diamonds} board. Out he goes.

Cloutier Still In, Somehow

Hellmuth - robbed
Hellmuth - robbed
Lucky lucky man T.J. Cloutier has doubled through Phil Hellmuth. Down to just 14,600, Cloutier stuck his last in with {A-Spades} {J-Spades} and was extremely behind Hellmuth's {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}; nevertheless the deck was on Cloutier's side, and once it had come down {A-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {A-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {10-Hearts}, he was back up to 30,000, while Hellmuth dipped to 55,000.

Disappointing Encounter

An enormous hand so near to the bubble -- a three-way raising war resulted in Patrick O'Malley and Ram Hong on their backs, while original raiser Matthew Cutler ducked out of their way.

O'Malley: {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}
Hong: {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}

Board: wait for it...

...

{9-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}

Chop! Wow...

Hand For Hand

We are down to the very funnest bit of the day -- the bubble! 172 players remain, of whom only 171 are going to get paid. We're hand for hand now until our unlucky bubbler does the walk of shame out of the Amazon Room. Please stand by...
