Who Killed Kearny?

Simon Kearney had his short stack in preflop and had two opponents, Mack Lee and Brian Haack, battling for a side pot. The flop came {K-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {5-Spades} and Haack checked called a Lee bet. He did the same on the {8-Diamonds} turn before the {4-Clubs} was checked through.

Lee opened {A-Spades} {2-Spades} {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} to scoop. Kearny was eliminated with his {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {4-Hearts} and Haack mucked.

Lee up to 105,000.

Jean-Robert Plays Ace-Deuce

Jean-Robert Bellande

We pick up a four-way pot on the turn as the board shows {9-Spades} {2-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}. Action was on Ben Gold, and he made a bet. Karen Longfellow made the call, and Jean-Robert Bellande raised it up. John Hennigan got out of the pot, as did Gold, but Longfellow came along.

The river was the {2-Clubs}. Bellande bet once more, and Longfellow called. Bobby turned over {A-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}, only really needing one of those cards to win. His quad deuces scoop it up, knocking Karen Longfellow down to 13,000.

Jean-Robert, on the other hand, must have had a fantastic dinner. Since he returned, he has been on an absolute tear, moving himself all the way up to 250,000. He and James Van Alstyne are now the only players in immediate contention for the chip lead with Scott Clements.

Desperate For Approval

Teaser

Toto Leonidas and Phil Ivey played a pot all the way to the river where we had a {A-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} board. Toto started as the aggressor but Phil took over as the hand progressed. Toto tabled {3-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} and it was chop chop as Phil turned over {K-Spades} {6-Hearts} {J-Spades} {2-Hearts}.

Toto started laughing at Phil's hand Annie Duke got involved saying to the table about Phil "I teased him for being a nit and now he has opened up his game. He's desperate for my attention!"

Zolotow Finds a Spade

Matt Glantz raised it up in the cutoff seat to open the pot. The button called, as did Steve Zolotow and the big blind as well.

Four-handed then, the flop came down {J-Hearts} {7-Spades} {10-Spades}. Zolotow was first to act, and he fired a bet. The big blind called, as did Matt Glantz, while the fourth player surrendered.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds}. Zolotow bet again, this time getting rid of the big blind. Glantz called though.

Fifth street came the {Q-Spades}. Zolotow loaded another bullet and fired, getting Glantz to call. Zolotow showed {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {10-Hearts} for the nuts. Glantz nodded knowingly and mucked his four cards.

Book Signing

The Bear hunted down
The Bear hunted down
Unfortunately the title gives it away. Barry Greenstein has just been eliminated. He was involved in a hand with Sam Khouiss and John Hennigan where they all saw a {A-Spades} {9-Hearts} {4-Hearts} flop. Greenstein's bet was called by both before the {8-Diamonds} came.

Greenstein moved all in for his last 5,300 and was called by Khouiss before Hennigan raised. Khouiss called so we went to the {8-Clubs} river that was checked through.

Hennigan revealed {A-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {3-Spades} to scoop the lot and make it to 191,000. Greenstein signed his book in the usual way and left.

Doubling Dags

John D'Agostino
John D'Agostino
John D'Agostino was tangled up in a pot for his tournament life, heads up with Bill Chen. On a flop of {Q-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}, D'Agostino got the rest of his ~20,000 chips into the middle, and Chen looked him up.

Showdown
D'Agostino: {A-Spades} {2-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}
Chen: {K-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {J-Clubs} {3-Spades}

Dags had flopped the straight but he wasn't out of the woods just yet. The turn was a blank {5-Clubs}, and the river was safe too as the {A-Hearts} filled out the board. With his scoop, D'Agostino has doubled up and then some, sitting now on 43,500 chips.

Smith Receives a Little Boost

Max Reynaud and Justin Smith tangled in a hand that we caught up to at the turn with a {K-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} board. Smith bet and Reynaud called to see the {7-Spades} river. Smith bet once more, got a call and scooped the pot with {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {2-Hearts} as Reynaud mucked.

Smith -- 120,000
Reynaud -- 27,000

Alaei Has Two Hearts

Daniel Alaei
Daniel Alaei
Brian Haack kicked off the action with an under-the-gun raise. Jacobo Fernandez called from the button, as did Daniel Alaei and Matt Glantz in the blinds.

The flop rolled out {Q-Hearts} {8-Spades} {7-Spades}, and Haack continued out with a bet. All three opponents called. The turn was the {7-Hearts}, and Haack let the action check through him this time. Fernandez was last to act, and he took the opportunity to fire a bet of his own. Alaei and Glantz called, while Haack got out of the way. Fifth street brought the {4-Hearts}, and all three players checked.

Alaei tabled {A-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {8-Hearts}, and nobody could match it. With his heart flush, Alaei scoops the pot and works his way up to 135,000.

Seats Open!

Todd Brunson, one of the departed
Todd Brunson, one of the departed
Todd Brunson and Brent Carter were both all in after the turn, and Sam Khouiss called them both down, putting the fate of two players in his hands. The four cards in the middle of the table read {5-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {10-Spades}.

Showdown
Khouiss: {A-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {5-Hearts}
Brunson: {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {4-Clubs}
Carter: {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {8-Spades} {3-Spades}

The two at-risk players were in bad shape against Khouiss' full book, drawing dead to the high and slim to the low. The river ragged off with the {K-Clubs}, no help to either player. With that big pot, Sam Khouiss has eliminated two players, chipping up to 235,000 in the process.

Todd Brunson and Brent Carter have both been shown the door. "Floor, we have three seats open!" yelled Jean-Robert Bellande, not bothering to wait until the newly-eliminated players were out of earshot.
