We're back in the Rio Hotel and Casino for what should be an exciting day of action. We have 14 players remaining in the hunt for the $2,500 Omaha/Stud Hi/Lo bracelet in Event 25 with all the attention on the legendary Phil Ivey who will be gunning for bracelet #7 today.
Ivey slipped back to the pack late last night and will have some work to do to overcome talented players such as 2001 World Champion Carlos Mortensen, WSOP bracelet winners Blair Rodman and Dutch Boyd, and talented pros seeking their first taste of gold including Steve Wong, Chad Brown and overnight chip leader Jon Turner.
The split action will recommence at 1pm local time which is in about 30 minutes time. Stay tuned!
Chad Brown only had 23,000 chips overnight and committed them in one of the first Stud-8 hands of the day. He was up against Ming Lee and Carlos Mortensen, but Lee bet into the side pot to force a fold from Mortensen on fifth. The boards were as follows:
Mortensen:
Lee: () ()
Brown: () ()
Lee made an eight-high straight and six-low which was too good for Brown as he became our first casualty of the day, eliminated in 14th place.
Phil Ivey has chipped up after firing a bet on the river in a recent Stud-8 hand, with Steve Wong making the call. Ivey tabled kings and fours for two pair, which beat Wong's jacks and deuces. With no low out there, Ivey scooped and moved up to around 260,000 chips.
Tom Koral has taken a hit after leading the betting on early streets, Steve Wong took over on fifth and sixth streets before the river was checked down.
Koral: () (X)
Wong: () (X)
Wong's two pair took it down as he's up to 350,000 leaving Koral in trouble on the short stack.
After Dutch Boyd completed, Steve Wong led the betting on fourth and fifth streets, before Boyd took over on sixth and seventh. Wong called him down and the boards were as follows:
Wong: () ()
Boyd: () ()
"Look at what I started with..." said a bemused Wong as he showed his rolled up jacks. However Boyd scooped with his flush to jump up to 415,000 chips.
