Strothman Out

Malte Strothman
Malte Strothman
With the board showing {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades}{K-Spades}, a series of bets saw the chip-depleted Malte Strothman get the last of his chips in the middle with {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, but his opponent had {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. The river was the {3-Diamonds}, and Strothman is out.

Dinner Break

We've reached the end of Level 6 and the scheduled dinner break. Players will take 90 minutes to think about what they've done, what they're gonna do, and maybe grab a bite, too.

Given the added time to take care of the color-up, cards should be back in the air by about 8:30 p.m. Vegas time.

Chipping In

Barry Greenstein currently has about 15,000. Mimi Tran has 8,500. And J.J. Liu has about 4,500.

Bill Chen looks to have more than 15,000 at the moment, though it is a little hard to tell. An announcement was just made that there will be a color-up during the upcoming break, and so one player at each table is being asked to buy up all of the green 25 chips from his or her tablemates to make the process go more smoothly. Chen has taken on the duty at his table, and thus in the process of stacking a sizable mass of greens.

Falling Fast

After hardly losing anyone during the first couple of hours of play, players are being eliminated at a rapid clip now. We're now down to 350 players (from our starting field of 643).

The average chip stack right now is 8,276, which at the current level (blinds 150/300, limits 300/600) amounts to less than 14 big bets.

Schwartz Not as Short

Ylon Schwartz
Ylon Schwartz
Ylon Schwartz, getting low on chips, raised, a player reraised behind him, the table folded, and Schwartz made the call. The flop came {2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{J-Hearts}. Schwartz checked, his opponent bet, Schwartz check-raised, and his opponent called.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds}, Schwartz bet, and was called. Same routine for the river card, the {10-Hearts}.

Schwartz showed {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for a pair of jacks, and his opponent mucked. He has 6,200.

Witteles Scalps 'Em

A player limped in under the gun (as he had the previous hand), and the table folded back around to Todd "Dan Druff" Witteles in the small blind. Witteles lifted the travel size bottle of Head & Shoulders shampoo he uses as a card protector, checked his cards, and made the call. The big blind checked.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts}. The blinds checked, the UTG player bet, and both called. All three checked the {Q-Diamonds} on the turn. The river brought the {5-Hearts}. Witteles bet, and the big blind contemplated for a while, then made the call, and the UTG player folded.

Witteles turned over {Q-Clubs}{9-Spades} for two pair, and his opponent mucked. He's up around 10,000 at the moment.

Daniel Down

Daniel Negreanu, who won a bracelet in limit hold'em last year and just finished runner-up in an LHE event last week, has been eliminated.

Bad timing for Kid Poker, as he ran A-K into an opponent holding pocket fours after the flop had brought both an ace and a four. The pair bet until Negreanu was all in, and now he's all out.
