643 Entrants

The final official total has been announced -- 643 entrants. The top 63 spots pay, with first prize netting $197,488.

We've seen several players bust here in the fourth level -- of the original group, 580 now remain.

Check the "Prizepool and Payouts" page for the full payout schedule.

This Will Go On Your Permanent Record

Haven't seen that many penalties assessed so far this summer, although we did just witness a player receive a one-orbit penalty for calling another a "donkey."

There had been at least one warning delivered to that player earlier in this event, and it is possible he may have been warned/penalized before, given the new tracking system being used at this year's WSOP.

More Faces

A few more familiar faces have surfaced here, including Daniel Negreanu, Marcel Luske, and Tom Schneider.

Al Barbieri is here, too. He's got one of the bigger stacks with about 13,000 at the moment.

Buss Busted

Jerry Buss was just eliminated in a hand where he was all in and his two opponents made a full house and a queen-high flush, both of which had his hand dominated.

Even Kobe Bryant would have had difficulty against that double-team.

Field Trip Report, Part II

Eric Froehlich

A few updates from the Brasilia room...

Brock Parker's seat his vacant. David Chiu reports he busted in the previous level.

Saw two-time WSOP bracelet holder Eric Froehlich raise from the hijack seat and claim the blinds. He's sitting at about 5,700 at the moment.

Also, TV producer/writer Sam Simon (The Simpsons) is nursing a short stack. Just now he limped into a pot, only to have the player to his left raise, prompting an "of course" look from Simon. It folded back around and the made the call.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Simon checked, his opponent bet, and Simon rechecked his cards, then folded. His opponent showed him his hand -- {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}. Simon nodded with a wry grin, his stack now at about 2,000.

As tables break here in the Amazon, they are bringing those in the Brasilia over here a table at a time, so eventually we'll all be dancing in the same ballroom.

I Had You

With the board showing {9-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}, an early position player bet, Nick Frangos raised, and the EP player called. The river brought a fourth heart -- the {J-Hearts} -- and this time the EP player bet out. Frangos called, and his opponent showed {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for the nut flush. Frangos mucked.

"Really? You thought ace-nine was good on the turn?" asked Frangos. He's down to about 1,400.

Good Read

A short-stacked player raised from the cutoff, and both blinds called, including Justin Bonomo in the BB. Bonomo brought a book to read here during the first couple of levels, and tucked it away as the dealer dealt the flop.

The flop came {A-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. It checked to Bonomo who bet, the CO raised, the SB folded, and Bonomo called.

The turn was the {J-Hearts}. Bonomo bet again, his opponent raised, Bonomo three-bet, his opponent raised with the last of his chips, and Bonomo called.

Bonomo showed {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for the turned set, while his opponent turned over {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. The river was the {5-Hearts}, and Bonomo had eliminated a player. He is at about 5,500.

Enright at Home

Barbara Enright

Three-time WSOP bracelet winner Barbara Enright -- the only woman ever to make a WSOP Main Event final table (she finished 5th in 1995) -- is here. She sitting comfortably with about 5,500 at the moment.

Gonna revise that earlier estimate and say there may well be close to 60 women in the field today -- nearly 10 percent.

Big Blind Special

The player sitting UTG+1 raised, Amir Vahedi called from the cutoff, and the BB called as well. The flop came single-suited -- {4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. The BB checked, the original raiser bet, Vahedi raised, and both called. The turn was the {5-Diamonds}, and all three checked.

The river was yet another diamond: {9-Diamonds}. It checked to Vahedi who pushed out the two blue chips for a bet of 200, the BB quickly called, and after some deliberation the UTG+1 player called as well.

"I play the board," said Vahedi with a shrug. The BB turned over {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, and the third player mucked. Vahedi flashed K-10 (no diamonds, obviously) to his neighbor before tossing his cards. He has about 8,700 at the moment.
