De Wolfe Over Howe

Roland de Wolfe put in a preflop raise from early position, and when it folded back to the small blind Jody Howe pushed all in for 17,000. De Wolfe called.

Howe showed {J-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and de Wolfe {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The board came {3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{5-Hearts}, and de Wolfe claimed the pot. Howe is out, and de Wolfe now up to 90,000.

Dennis Phillips Out, Still Smiling

Dennis Phillips - Eliminated
Dennis Phillips - Eliminated
On a turn board showing {7-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {9-Spades}, two opponents checked to Dennis Phillips, and he moved all in for 27,000. After some deliberation, Mark Friedman would make the call, folding the third player involved.

Phillips tabled {6-Spades} {6-Diamonds}, trailing Friedman's {Q-Diamonds} {10-Spades}. Looking for a six or an eight, Phillips found none. The {2-Diamonds} filled out the board, and America's favorite truck salesman has been eliminated.

As he left the room, Phillips was all smiles, beaming from ear to ear. And it may take weeks to wipe that smile off of his face. Dennis spent the early part of the afternoon decked out in a personalized St. Louis Blues jersey, playing poker with a group of hockey players including Alex Ovechkin, Jeremy Roenick, and Eddie Olczyk over in the ESPN arena.

Hellmuth Scores a Ten

Phil Hellmuth is going up and down in the early stages of Day 2. In his most recent pot, Hellmuth faced a turn bet of 8,000 with the board showing {3-Spades} {4-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {6-Spades}. Giving his opponent a brief stare, Hellmuth moved all in for just about 25,000 total. His opponent, Scott Dorsch, would eventually fold.

Hellmuth decided to open up his hand, revealing two more tens for a set. "Beat that, baby!" He's back up to 45,000, and he's decided to take a little walk, heading out into the corridors.

ElkY Eliminates One

A player in middle position raised to 3,200, and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier reraised all in for 15,000. His opponent called, and Grospellier had him covered.

Grospellier showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and his opponent {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. The board came {10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, and another player hit the rail. ElkY now has 32,000.

Another Cash for Hansen

Thor Hansen
Thor Hansen
A short-stacked Thor Hansen was forced to commit the last of his chips with {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}, and was up against another short-stacked player (who had him barely covered) who held {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

The community cards were {10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, and Hansen is out. Hansen reports this is the fourth straight event in which he has cashed, his best finish among those four being a ninth place in the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud event (Event No. 16).

Look Out for Mackey

James "mig.com" Mackey
James "mig.com" Mackey
James Mackey put about 60,000 chips at risk, tangling up in an unusually large preflop war with big stack Kim Frederiksen. The cards were turned over, and it was a race with Mackey's {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} trying to survive Frederiksen's {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds}.

The flop would be very helpful indeed for the at-risk Mackey, coming {3-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} to put him in the lead. The {9-Clubs} and {J-Hearts} that followed would keep him there, notching him a huge double up. Mackey was very short stacked with about 1,000 chips left yesterday, but this most-recent win bumps him all the way to 125,000.

Frederiksen is down to 42,000 after working himself up over the century mark early on.

Kwikfish KOed

Paul "Kwikfish" Wasicka is out. After having been crippled in a previous hand, Wasicka was forced to push his last chips in with {K-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and unfortunately ran into a player holding pocket rockets. The board came {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, and Kwikfish is out.

ElkY Accumulating Chips

ElkY
ElkY
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is another dangerous player who is making his charge here on Moving Day. ElkY came into the day with 27,200 chips, well below the average stack. He's been knocking out players left and right already today though, and he just claimed yet another victim.

Before the flop, he made a sloppy raise to about 20,000, though it was tough to tell exactly as he just plunked a big tower of yellow chips out onto the felt. A short-stacked opponent called off his last 15,000 with {8-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}, in bad shape against ElkY's {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades}.

The board ran {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {4-Hearts}, holding the overpair to give Grospellier another knockout. He's all the way up to 87,000 now, certainly a dangerous situation for the rest of the field.

Hearts Help Jacob

On a flop of {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, Alex Jacob's short-stacked opponent checked, Jacob bet 7,500, his opponent check-raised all in, and Jacob called.

Jacob had {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for the flopped flush, and his opponent was drawing mighty thin with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}. The board ran out {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, and another player got up to report to payouts.

Jacob is up to 55,000.

Mt. Saint Hellmuth

Three players each put in 4,000 chips before the flop, and they saw the dealer run {Q-Spades} {8-Clubs} {4-Clubs}. Jeff Blenkarn was first to act, and he moved all in for 16,500. After the second player folded, Phil Hellmuth snap-called to put Blenkarn at risk.

Showdown
Blenkarn: {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}
Hellmuth: {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}

Blenkarn was in trouble with his underpair trailing Phil's top-top. To Hellmuth's unbearable torment (and his table's delight), the {10-Spades} struck the turn like a bolt of lightning, drawing an eruption of profanity from Hellmuth.

After that two-outer, Blenkarn has more than doubled to 49,000, and Hellmuth has taken a step back to 60,000.
