Bax Eliminates Smyth and Chen

Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy
Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy
From early position, Andrew Chen raised to 15,000. Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy called from the cut off, as did Farbrice Soulier from the small blind and Marty Smyth in the big blind.

The flop came {7-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {4-Hearts} . Soulier checked, Smyth bet 6,000 and Chen called all in for his last 1,000. Josephy then raised pot.

Soulier got out of the way and Smyth called for his tournament life.

Josephy: {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {4-Spades}
Smyth: {A-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}
Chen: {J-Spades} {3-Hearts} x - x

The board filled out {7-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {3-Spades} {A-Spades} allowing Josephy's set to hold up. He eliminates both Chen (30th place) and Marty Smyth (29th).

Nikolay Evdakov Cashes Again

Nikolay Evdakov set the record last year for most cashes in a single WSOP. He's at it again this year, cashing here today in 31st place.

Evdakov's elimination came in a three-way raised pot. On a flop of {5-Spades} {4-Clubs} {4-Hearts}, Evdakov led out for 80,000, then called all in when Mike Watson moved in. Evdakov had {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}, aces and a gutshot draw. Watson showed {10-Spades} {7-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {4-Spades}, trip fours with an up-and-down straight draw. Trip fours were enough when the turn fell {6-Diamonds} and river came {K-Diamonds}.

Two More Double-Ups

It seems like the short stacks ate their spinach at dinner. They continue to double-up left and right. Fabrice Soulier doubled up to about 70,000 by flopping a set of kings and the nut flush draw against Sorel Mizzi and having his hand hold. John Kabbaj was all in for 53,500 on a flop of {10-Spades} {8-Spades} {2-Hearts} and called by Jonathan Cantor. Kabbaj had a naked flush draw that filled on the river to overtake Cantor's turned straight.

New chip counts:

Soulier - 70,000
Mizzi - 350,000
Kabbaj - 150,000
Cantor - 90,000

Evan Sofer Doubles Up Big

Evan Sofer is all in for 125,500 after a flop of {10-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} against Richard Austin.

Austin: {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {10-Spades} {6-Spades}
Sofer: {10-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {8-Spades} {7-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}{J-Spades} {Q-Hearts} giving Sofer a straight and the pot.

Evan Sofer - 280,000
Richard Austin - 240,000

Post-Dinner Slowdown

We've been back from dinner for forty minutes now, and play has been surprisingly slow. The remaining 31 players don't seem to be in much of a hurry to get their chips into the middle.

Ochana Doubles Again!

Edward Ochana has been busy with the doubling up for a few levels now. He raised pot, to 22,500 after Richard Tatalovich limped into the pot from early position. Tatalovich called, then put Ochana all in on a flop of {Q-Hearts} {4-Spades} {3-Spades}. Ochana called with {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}, a set of queens. Tatalovich showed {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}. With no help on the turn or river, he lost the pot.

Ochana has 135,000 chips now. Tatalovich has been crippled to 16,000.

Marco Wegher Doubles Through Peter Jetten

From under the gun Marco Wegher raised to 16,500. Richard Austin reraised behind to 37,500 and Peter Jetten reraised pot to 143,500. Action folded back around to Wegher, who called all in for his remaining 13,000 and Austin got out of the way.

Wegher: {K-Spades} {Q-Spades} {J-Spades} {9-Diamonds}
Jetten: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {2-Clubs}

The board came {9-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {3-Clubs} {4-Spades} giving Wegher a spade flush and the pot.

Wegher - 100,000
Jetten - 140,000

Lisandro, Lellouche Liquidated

Jeff Lisandro - 33rd Place
Jeff Lisandro - 33rd Place
There's little that's worse than going on an extended break with a very small stack and then having to come back and play maybe five hands before busting. That's what happened to each of Jeff Lisandro and Anthony Lellouche.

Lisandro was crippled right before dinner. He survived a couple of miniscule double-ups before getting his stack in again with {K-Hearts} {j-Spades} {7-Spades} {8-Hearts} against Jonathan Cantor's {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}. Lisandro flopped two pair, {J-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {6-Clubs}, but a {6-Hearts} on the turn gave Cantor a bigger two pair. Lisandro couldn't improve with the river {6-Spades}. He's out in 33rd place.

Lellouche went out shortly thereafter, falling to Isaac Baron. Lellouche bet 16,000 on a flop of {K-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {3-Hearts} and Baron called. When the {6-Hearts} popped off on the turn, Lellouche checked. Baron bet 31,000, drawing a check-raise all in for 101,000 from Lellouche. Baron quickly called with the nuts, {A-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {7-Clubs}. Lellouche showed {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {8-Hearts}, a hand that left him looking for a heart on the river to stay alive. The river blanked {J-Diamonds}, sending Lellouch to the rail in 32nd place.
