Matt Finish

Finding himself with only 2,000 in chips come the redraw, Matt Kelly wasted no time in shipping them in. He called all in under the gun with {K-Clubs} {5-Clubs} but Matt Lichtie picked up {A-Hearts} {8-Spades} to his left, and with no spiky little helpers for Kelly on the {4-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {9-Spades} {8-Diamonds} board, Kelly is out in 27th.

Rodriguez Down, Then Up, But Only Slightly Up

Disaster for Julio Rodriguez -- and then a slight recovery.

Most of his chips disappeared in David Baker's stack after Baker turned over {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} on the river of the {3-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {J-Spades} board to put him up to 250,000. Rodriguez mucked -- and was left with just 10,000.

However, he got those 10,000 in from the big blind to a raise from Jared O'Dell, and after an incredibly exciting board, he doubled up to 25,000.

Rodriguez: {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}
O'Dell: {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}

Board: {A-Spades} {5-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {J-Spades}

The Kid's No More

26th Spot
26th Spot
Daniel Negreanu has just been eliminated in 26th place after a tangle with Ron Burke. Burke raised UTG and was called by Negreanu in the BB before we saw a {10-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {9-Diamonds} flop. Negreanu bet out and was called before the rest of his chips went in on the {3-Hearts} turn. Burke called and tabled {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}. Negreanu opened a drawing {4-Hearts} {7-Hearts}.

The river came {A-Spades} to confirm Negreanu's exit. Another impressive cash for the limit maestro.

Player Outed in Blind War

Brian Cospolich had fallen at the hands of Steve Cowley. There was action preflop and on the flop before the last of the chips went in on the turn when the board read {J-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {5-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}.

Cospolich opened {A-Spades} {10-Spades} to Cowley's {Q-Spades} {9-Spades}. The river came {10-Diamonds} and we lose another.

Rodriguez Back Down, No Up This Time

...And after that tiny recovery for Julio Rodriguez, back down he went, and this time he's out for the count.

Whatever Rodriguez was holding at the end of the {A-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {A-Spades} {3-Hearts} board, it couldn't beat Mike Thorpe's {A-?} {Q-?}, and he becomes our 24th place finisher.

Noooooo Nooooooo

A funny moment occurred a short while ago when Phil Hellmuth was moved from his table to take the seat vacated by Daniel Negreanu.

Mike Thorpe was Hellmuth's table mate and obviously enjoyed having him at his table but for what reason I'll leave up to you. He showed his disappointment though with yelling "Noooooooooo, Noooooooooo" followed by "Damn you floor person".

Hellmuth just had a big smile on his face the entire time. Any attention is good attention to some folks.

WTF?

A bit of an altercation had started between Phil Hellmuth and Alex Keating, and was not improved any when Alex Keating's pocket tens started good and stayed good against Hellmuth's {8-?} {10-?} on a {6-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {9-Spades} board, leaving Hellmuth on 20,000 at the end of the hand.

To be honest we have no idea what the dispute is about, but the phrase "heads up for rolls" was voiced by Keating at one point, and his bellows of, "I CAN'T TAKE ANY MORE OF THIS!" still periodically reverberate around the Amazon Room. Naturally a crowd has formed to enjoy the show. The floor was called over and banned the two from speaking to each other, but apparently Hellmuth kept talking anyway; Keating reasonably decided that if Hellmuth was allowed to talk then so was he. So yes, no idea what that's about. We'll keep our scandal radar turned to max...

Laberge La-Busto

Robert Laberge in the big blind called Steven Cowley's button raise, and proceeded to bet out on the {7-Hearts} {9-Spades} {2-Hearts} flop. Cowley raised and Laberge reraised; Cowley called and they saw a {J-Hearts} turn.

Laberge bet out again and once again Cowley raised. Laberge reraised for his last 6,000, and a call.

Cowley flipped {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} for the flush, and Laberge couldn't beat it -- he is therefore out in 23rd place.
