Back on the Horse - Day 2 Set to Commence

Welcome back to the Rio Hotel and Casino on a very hot Las Vegas summer day for our continued coverage of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship.

Yesterday, 95 players saddled up with only four jockeys falling before the day was done. Hasan Habib is out in front with 387,000 chips but there is a long way to go in this one.

Play is set to kick off at 4 p.m. local time, which is about twenty minutes from now. Stay tuned to our live and exclusive coverage from the tournament floor on PokerNews.com.

Shuffle Up and Deal

Tournament Director Jack Effel just put the cards in the air and Day 2 is underway. There was a draw made for the game every table will start with... and undoubtedly to everyone's delight, Razz was the winner.

Schulman Starts Well

Razz

Nick Schulman has got his day of to a bright start after taking down one of the first Razz hands of the day.

With bets on all streets against Kirill Rabtsov, Schulman tabled ({2-?}{7-?}{8-?}) {3-?}{10-?}{Q-?}{A-?} for a eight-low which was to good for Rabtsov's ({7-?}{5-?}-X) {6-?}{9-?}{10-?}{3-?}.

Schulman is up to 145,000.

Day 2 Table of Death: And the Nominees Are...

So you've had a chance to take a look at some of the sick table lineups here in the Amazon Room's Orange section. While every table could qualify as a Table of Death in a "regular" tournament, there really are no soft spots in this field.

Our nominees for Day 2 Table of Death are...

Table 60: Huck Seed, Andy Bloch, Matt Glantz, Jon 'Pearljammer' Turner, Jason Gray, Thor Hansen, James Van Alstyne, Greg Mascio

Table 64:Alexander Jung, John Juanda, Johnny Chan, Mike Matusow, Scotty Nguyen, David Bach, Vitaly Lunkin, David Chiu

Table 76: Patrik Antonius, John Hennigan, David Oppenheim, Abe Mosseri, Frank Cremen, Annie Duke, Barry Greenstein

And the winner, of the Day 2 Table of Death is...

Table 81: Scott Clements, Allen Kessler, Erik Seidel, Daniel Negreanu, Andy Black, Chau Giang, David Grey

Day Two - The Contenders Start to Emerge

In the short history of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E., Day 2 has already set a precedent as being mover’s day. It’s the stage of the tournament where the majority of the field will be eliminated and where the contenders for the title will start to emerge.

In 2007, John Hanson ended Day 2 as the chip leader as the 127 Day 1 survivors were reduced to just 52 by the end of the second day of play. Hanson carried his chips through to the final table where he eventually finished third. Kenny Tran, Phil Ivey and Mike Matusow all ended the day in the top ten chip counts and would go on to reach the money.

Last year, the 140 Day 1 survivors were reduced to just 67 by the end of Day 2. Lyle Berman ended the day with the chip lead and would go on to finish in fifth place, while other final tablists Pat Bueno and Barry Greenstein ended Day 2 close behind in second and third chip position.

Interestingly, neither of the two eventual winners from these years had peaked by the time the chips were bagged at the end of Day 2. Freddy Deeb was well positioned in 16th, while Scotty Nguyen incredibly was towards the bottom of the field after Day 2 in 55th.

So, while we may not be able to spot our winner just yet, by the end of the day, whoever is in the chip lead is likely to play a big role in the result of this tournament.

Sevens Up for Seed

Huck Seed
Huck Seed
Stud

Huck Seed ({4-Spades})({4-Hearts}){7-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {A-?} {7-?} ({6-Clubs})
Greg Mascio ({6-Hearts})({5-Diamonds}){9-Spades} {A-?} {Q-?} (?){4-?}

Huck Seed and Greg Mascio took this hand all the way to the river, where Seed revealed two pair, sevens and fours, on the end to take down the pot. After the hand, he is up to 197,000.

Bonomo Razzes Deeb

Razz

Deeb: (X-X) {2-?}{7-?}{6-?}{3-?} (X)
Bonomo: (X-X) {2-?}{7-?}{2-?}{A-?} (X-X)

Freddy Deeb raised on third street and fired bets the whole way with Justin Bonomo calling him down. On the river, Deeb slowed down and checked over to Bonomo, who fired a final bet with Deeb making the call.

Bonomo tabled ({3-?}{4-?}-X) for a seven-low to scoop the pot. Bonomo is up to 115,000 with Deeb down to just 80,000.

The Rise and Fall of Abe

Abe Mosseri has had a rollercoast few minutes of Stud. In the first hand, he took down a nice pot against Patrik Antonius.

Mosseri: (X-X) {9-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} (X)
Antonius: (X-X) {4-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{10-Spades}{J-Spades} (X)

Mosseri fired bets on every street and Antonius eventually gave it up on the river.

Next hand, Mosseri tangled with David Oppenheim.

Mosseri: (X-X) {10-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} (X)
Oppenheim: (X-X) {K-Spades}{A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} (X)

Oppenheim raised third before Mosseri reraised, and then led the betting on fourth, fifth and sixth streets. On the river, Oppenheim led out with Mosseri making the call.

Oppenheim revealed ({10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{J-Spades}) for the broadway straight to take it down as Mosseri mucked.

Mosseri is down to 86,000 with Oppenheim at 140,000.
