We're Back

Cards are back in the air. It's likely we'll be playing two more one-hour levels, then calling it a night.

Relatively speaking, the Amazon Room is somewhat subdued this evening. The other final tables have finished up, and Event No. 56 is now the last bracelet event still running until the big one starts Friday.

There's a Main Event satellite running on the other side of the ballroom, and the usual clutch of cash games that continue around the clock. Not a lot of noise coming from those corners of the room, though. There are about three dozen spectators, however, gathered around the ropes to watch Event No. 56 play out. And we're hearing their reactions to what they're witnessing now and again.

Someone unfamiliar with the WSOP who just happened by might be surprised to know that millions of dollars are on the line. Indeed, there is over $3 million worth of the prize pool still up for grabs, with a whopping $1,003,163 going to the victor.

Roberts Hits Rail in 27th

Following a limper and a raise to 27,000 from middle position, Ben Roberts pushed all in from the button for 300,000, Jonas Wexler called from the small blind, and the others folded.

Roberts had made his move with {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}, but unfortunately for him Wexler had woken up in the SB with {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}.

The board came {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{7-Spades}{Q-Spades}, and Roberts is out in 27th place, earning $22,157.

Deeb Out in 26th

Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb
Following a hand in which he'd taken a hit to his stack, Shaun Deeb ended up all in with {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} against Rory Mathews who had {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}. The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{K-Spades}, and Deeb goes out in 26th ($22,157).

Unlucky Turn Sends Shilnikov Home in 25th

Dmitriy Shilnikov was just eliminated in 25th place ($22,157) in a hand in which all of his chips went in the middle on the flop with Matt Hawrilenko his foe. Shilnikov had pocket deuces and had flopped a set, while Hawrilenko held pocket kings.

But the turn brought one of the two kings left in the deck, giving Hawrilenko a better set. No case deuce on the river for Shilnikov, and he's out.

Phil Hellmuth Eliminated in 24th Place ($26,824)

The Quest for 12 Continues
The Quest for 12 Continues
A relatively short-stacked Phil Hellmuth pushed all in with pocket sevens, and Peter Feldman was there to challenge him with A-K.

A king flopped, no seven came to save Hellmuth, and he's out in 24th place. According to WSOP Media Director Nolan Dalla, the $26,824 Hellmuth earns tonight is his 74th cash -- the fifth of this WSOP.

Chiu Chips Up, Waxman Wanes

David Chiu
David Chiu
Josh Brikis raised to 32,000 from under the gun and David Chiu called from the cutoff. It folded to Matt Waxman in the small blind who reraised to 135,000. Brikis let it go, Chiu pushed all in for 198,000, and Waxman made the call.

Waxman {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Chiu {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

The flop came {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts} -- aces for Waxman, but a set for Chiu. And the {6-Spades} on the turn made Chiu quads, and the {8-Clubs} on the river just an extra bit of trivia.

Chiu moves up to 460,000, and Waxman down to 450,000.
