Edler, Shorr, Bill Childs Out; Deeb on the Rise

While Bill Edler was being eliminated at one table in 38th place ($17,272), Shaun Deeb was busy knocking out two more players in rapid succession.

In the first, Shannon Shorr was all in before the flop for 140,000 with {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts} against Deeb's {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}. The board ran out {5-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, and Shorr hit the rail in 37th ($17,272).

Soon after, Bill Childs raised to 15,000 from late position, Deeb reraised to 50,000 from the small blind, Childs shoved all in for 160,000, and Deeb called.

Deeb showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} and Childs {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. The board went {10-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, and Childs is out in 36th ($19,453).

Deeb now has 900,000.

End of Day for Cao

Rui Cao
Rui Cao
After surviving that earlier encounter with Robert Kay, Rui Cao had his tournament life on the line again soon thereafter, this time against Matt Hawrilenko.

Hawrilenko has raised to 16,000 before the flop, and Cao pushed all in for 75,000. Hawrilenko called, turning over {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} to Cao's {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}.

We had ourselves a race situation, Vince.

The flop came {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, and Hawrilenko was in front. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and the river the {5-Hearts}, and Cao is out in 39th place. Hawrilenko is now up to 460,000.

Cao Survives

Rui Cao started the day as one of the chip leaders, built his stack even further early on, but had fallen back and was down to just 28,000 when he recently pushed all in with {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and was called by Robert Kay who held {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

The flop came a tantalizing {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, giving Cao a full house but a set to Kay, and the possibility of drawing a better boat. But the turn was the {2-Hearts} and the river the {10-Spades}, and Cao survives with about 60,000 now.

Martsev Out

Andrey Martsev pushed all in from middle position with his last 73,000, and Frank Calo made the call. Martsev showed {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, but Calo had woken up with {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}.

The board came {K-Clubs}{J-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}, and Martsev hits the rail in 40th place.

Waxman Wipes Out Another, Crosses One Million

Matt Waxman
Matt Waxman
Shortly after that hand with John Ray, Matt Waxman was soon back in action, this time versus Ilya Gorodetskiy. Gorodetskiy opened with a raise to 15,000, Waxman reraised to 47,000, Gorodetskiy came back over the top all in for 200,000 total, and Waxman called.

Gorodetskiy showed pocket sevens, and Waxman ace-king offsuit. An ace flopped, and another came on the river for good measure. Gorodetskiy hits the rail, and now Waxman is up over 1.1 million chips.

Waxman Puts Out Ray

Matt Waxman completed from the small blind, and John Ray checked from the BB. The flop came {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Waxman bet 25,000, Ray raised to 75,000, and Waxman called.

The turn was the {K-Hearts}. This time Waxman bet 65,000, Ray raised all in for 280,000 total, and Waxman quickly called, showing {K-Spades}{8-Hearts} for two pair, well ahead of Ray's {7-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Ray is out. Waxman now has 820,000.
