A Little November Nine Reunion

Can he do it again?
Can he do it again?
Peter Eastgate was just moved over to Blue 38 when his initial table broke, a move that reunited him with his fellow 2008 November Niner Dennis Phillips. Rounding out the lineup are two-time bracelet winner J.C. Tran and 2005 Main Event champion Joe Hachem-- which leaves us wondering... why isn't this the featured table?

A small pot just developed between Phillips and Eastgate, Phillips making it 42,000 to go from middle position and Eastgate making the call from the cutoff. The flop came down {9-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {3-Hearts} . Phillips led out for 85,000 and Eastgate gave it up.

With that hand, Phillips is up to 1.1 million while Eastgate slipped to 820,000.

If At First You Don't Succeed

Jim Routos raised from late position to 45,000 and got no less than four callers: Matt Affleck (hijack), Nick Maimone (cutoff), Tian Shou (button), and Benjamin Jensen (big blind).

The flop came {Q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{J-Diamonds}. It checked to Routos who bet 455,000, and this time the bet was enough to send everyone away.

Routos is at 705,000.

Thai Tran Eliminates Marty Zabib

After some preflop betting left Marty Zabib and Thai Tran heads up, the flop came {3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Zabib checked, Tran bet 156,000, Zabib check-raised all in for about 700,000, and Tran made the call.

Zabib showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, but was behind Tran's {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. The turn was the {J-Clubs} and the river the {A-Spades}, and Zabib is out in 164th place.

Tran pushes up to 2.55 million.

Haabak Should Have Practiced Avoidance

Prahlad Friedman
Prahlad Friedman
Prahlad Friedman opened up from middle position with a raise to 40,000. Two seats over, new table mate Jesse Haabak re-raised to 125,000 from the cutoff seat. It folded back around to Friedman, and he eventually moved all in for a total of 269,000. After getting the count, Haabak made the call to put Friedman at risk.

Showdown
Friedman: {8-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}
Haabak: {A-Diamonds} {6-Hearts}

Friedman stood up and paced around the stage behind his chair, clearly a bit anxious about the upcoming board. For his tournament life, he watched a safe board run out {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {4-Spades} {10-Diamonds}. With his eights holding, Prahlad has notched a much-needed double up, sitting now with 580,000.

Things That Make You Go "Hmmmm?"

There was 150,000 in the pot on the river, the board reading {K-Hearts} {K-Spades} {3-Spades} {K-Clubs} {8-Spades}. Ludovic Lacay moved all in for 1.87 million, sending John Martin into the tank. Martin thought about it for five solid minutes before finally calling off his remaining 575,000.

Lacay insta-mucked and Martin showed {Q-Spades} {9-Spades} for a flush. Since it was Lacay's bet that he called, Martin wanted to see the hand and it was fished out of the muck. Lacay had nothing but air with {7-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}.

Lacay is down to 1,870,000 while Martin has new life with 1.3 million in chips.

Casella Chilled by Hartley's Sweat

Short-stacked Jim Hartley was all in preflop with {A-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} and called by Michael Casella's {A-Spades} {10-Clubs}. With appropriate pause for ESPN to establish their shots, the dealer burned and produced a flop of {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}.

"Oo, sweat, sweat," said one of the players not involved in the hand as Hartley had picked up all the diamond outs to go along with his out to a pair of threes. The {5-Clubs} on the turn didn't help Hartley, but the {10-Diamonds} did. Hartley doubled up to 430,000, while Casella fell to 754,000.

Champ Vs. Champ

2008 WSOP Main Event champ Peter Eastgate raised to 44,000 from under the gun, and the table folded back around to 2005 WSOP Main Event champ Joe Hachem who called from the big blind.

The flop came {2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, and both players checked. The turn was the {2-Spades}. Hachem bet 40,000, and Eastgate made the call.

The river was the {K-Clubs}. This time Hachem fired out a bet of 120,000, and Eastgate again called.

Hachem showed {5-Spades}{5-Clubs} for the flopped set and turned boat, and Eastgate mucked. That hand takes Hachem up to 800,000, while Eastgate now has 555,000.

An Apple a Day

Moments after grabbing an apple from his favorite old couple on the rail, Phil Ivey returned to his seat for his small blind. Ryan Hart raised to 41,000 from under the gun. Herbie Gelman called from the next position, Sarne Lightman called from middle position, and Anh Van Nguyen called from the cutoff seat. Phil Ivey was in the small blind and raised to 180,000 with apple in hand. Only Nguyen made the call.

The flop brought the {6-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {5-Clubs} and Ivey led for 250,000. Nguyen tanked for a moment before looking at Ivey. Ivey was giving his famous blank stare and then took a big chunk out of his apple. Nguyen then called.

The turn was the {Q-Spades}. Ivey took a moment and went to make a bet with his remaining chips. He was going to bet with orange T5,000 chips as that's all he had left, but realized he was going to need two hands to do so. Not wanting to put his apple on the table, Ivey clenched is between his teeth and slid out a bet of 330,000 with two hands. Nguyen made the fold and Ivey raked in the pot.

Ivey is now up to 1.7 million.

Dang Finds Three Pair

Under the gun, Nichoel Peppe opened with a raise to 40,000. Four opponents came along with her to the flop, and it showed up {K-Spades} {2-Spades} {2-Diamonds}. She would continue out into the pot with a bet of 150,000, this time finding just one caller, Hac Dang.

Heads up then, fourth street came the {7-Hearts}. Peppe checked this time, and Dang took the opportunity to fire out 150,000 before being check-raised to 350,000. He called the extra 200,000, and the river card was the {Q-Spades}. Peppe checked again, and Dang checked behind.

The lady tabled {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} for kings up, but the river had made Dang's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} the winning top two pair. He's moved up to 2,490,000 knocking Peppe back to 1,200,000.

Adam Latimer Eliminated

Adam Latimer, playing on Day 3
Adam Latimer, playing on Day 3
Billy Kopp opened for 42,000 from UTG and with the action folded around to Adam Latimer in the small blind, he three-bet to 150,000. Kopp responded with an all in for 366,000 and Latimer made the call.

Latimer {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}
Kopp {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds}

Kopp flopped a set of aces on the {A-Hearts} {J-Spades} {8-Spades} {5-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} to send Latimer back to Britain in 163rd place.
