Vanderfluit Builds off Williams

A woman in the hijack position raised preflop, and was re-raised by Vincent Vanderfluit. David Williams called from the blinds, as did the hijack.

The flop was a mix of suits, but had straight draw potentials when it came {5-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}. Williams and the hijack both check-called a bet from Vanderfluit.

The turn added danger to the board when it came {8-Hearts}. The hijack check-folded Vanderfluit's bet, but Williams called. With the {6-Hearts} on the flop, Williams bet, Vanderfluit raised, and Willams called.

Vanderfluit showed {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a rivered flush, and Williams mucked.

When all was said and done, Williams had fallen to 61,000, while Vanderfluit is up to 36,000

Shulman Does the Double

Jeff Shulman has doubled up a second time and is now looking rather healthier on 13,000.

Shulman (small blind) and one other player saw a {3-Hearts}{k-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop and Shulman bet out. His opponent raised, Shulman called, and they saw a turn.

The turn was the {6-Spades} and Shulman now stuck his last 1,500 in by way of abet. His opponent called, and they were on their backs.

Opponent: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Shulman: trailing with {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

River: bink! {8-Spades}

The fortunate Shulman rivered a set to double up a second time and stay in the game.

Madsen Crippled, Then Tripled

It looked as though the chips went in before the flop or on it; either way the cards looked like so:

Jeff Madsen: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
James Buckley: somewhat behind with {{k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Board: {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades} ... {j-Spades}

Buckley doubled to 11,300. Madsen meanwhile was crippled to just 2,200.

So it was that a few hands later Madsen reraised all in in early-ish position and got no fewer than three callers. All three checked the {10-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop, but a bet from Matthew Keikoan on the {7-Diamonds} turn got rid of two of them. So, to showdown.

Keikoan: {a-}{6-}
Madsen: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

The river failed to bring Keikoan any help, and Madsen tripled up to 7,100.

More Chips Lost for Williams, Eliminated Shortly After

Matt Grapenthien set things off with a raise from middle position, with Vincent Vanderfluit re-raising from the button. David Williams called, as did Grapenthien.

The flop was a scattered {7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}. Williams checked the flop with Grapenthien betting, getting a call from Vanderfluit. When Williams put in a re-raise, both of his opponents called.

The turn brought along the {7-Spades}. When Williams bet, Grapenthien was the only taker. The river was the {j-Spades} and Williams made one more bet, getting called by Grapenthien.

Williams: {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Grapenthien; {q-Spades}{a-Clubs}

Williams had top pair, but so did Grapenthien, who had the better kicker.

Williams is down to 51,000 while Grapenthien is sitting with about 32,000 in tournament chips.

Editor's note: Williams' seat has been filled by a new player, leaving us to assume he busted shortly after this hand

Barry Had a Little Lamb

There had been at least one raise before the {4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop, and when we arrived on the aforementioned flop, Barry Greenstein (small blind) had already bet in the dark. Ben Lamb (button) made the call.

Greenstein bet in the dark before the {2-Clubs} turn as well and once more Lamb called. He rather gave up on the {9-Spades} river, though, and Lamb checked behind.

Greenstein: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Lamb: {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

Lamb's pocket fives took the pot, and Greenstein was reduced to 9,000.

----

A few hands later, Greenstein and Lamb got involved again, this time in a blind on blind confrontation. Greenstein was all in for around 5,000 total on the turn of the {7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-} board, and Lamb had made the call. "You're drawing dead," said Greenstein as he flipped {j-}{6-} for a straight and Lamb turned over the trailing {a-}{k-} - although someone swiftly pointed out that Lamb could pick up a six on the river for a chop. Either way, the six didn't come, and Greenstein doubled back up to 10,000 or so.

Terrence Chan Takes Small Hit

Terrence Chan, in the big blind, called a raise from a player in early position. Both players checked a flop of {7-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{j-Hearts}. Chan led out with a bet on the {7-Spades} turn, getting called from his opponent. On the {8-Diamonds} river, Chan bet, but folded to a raise from his opponent.

Triple Double for Shulman

Jeff Shulman, fresh off of rivering a set to double up, has doubled up for the third time in around an hour.

It looked like the player under the gun had raised and Shulman had called out of the big blind. Either way, Shulman check-raised all in for his last 2,000 on the {j-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop, and they were on their proverbial backs.

Shulman: {8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Under the gun gentleman: {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Turn: {2-Diamonds}

River: {6-Clubs}

Shulman's latest double up left him with 9,000.

Hawrilenko Out in Two Hands

Matt Hawrilenko
Matt Hawrilenko

Matt Hawrilenko is a fantastic limit hold'em player, but he won't be taking home a bracelet in this event.

In the first of two hands that saw him eliminated, Hawrilenko called a raise from the player in the cutoff. The flop came {4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, and Hawrilenko bet, getting called. Hawrilenko also got a call from his bet on the turn, which was {8-Spades}, but both players checked the {3-Hearts} on the river. Hawrilenko mucked when his opponent tabled {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}.

Hawrilenko was left with just 700 chips after that hand, and got it all in on the next with {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. He was unable to stay alive when a board reading {9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{8-Clubs} paired his opponent's {j-Diamonds}{5-Spades}.

Barry Greenstein Made to Sign One More Book

Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein

Barry Greenstein was down to just 4,200 chips and was sitting in the big blind when he called a button raise from Darren Shebell.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Greenstein check-called a bet from Shebell. When the {2-Spades} came on the river, Greenstein went all in for just 400 more and was called by Shebell.

Greenstein: {j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Shebell: {k-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

Shebell said, "If you have a pair, you're good." Greenstein didn't have a pair, though, and didn't get one when the {10-Spades} came on the river.
