Down, Up and Out for Ivey

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey was down to just 2,000 in chips when he went all in under the gun. He tripled-up when both blinds called him and his {q-}{q-} held on a board reading {3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}.

On the very next hand, though, John Mcquinn raised from the small blind, and Ivey moved the rest of his chips into the middle.

Ivey: {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Mcquinn: {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

All Ivey had to do was stay ahead, but he wasn't able to do so when the board came {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Mcquinn collected Ivey's chips, and Ivey headed outside the rail.
