Akkari Doubles For Dinner

André Akkari will enjoy his dinner after finding a double up late in the level. The action flop was {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} when all the chips went into the middle. Akkari tabled {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for the flush draw but he had a few less outs than he hoped as his opponent showed pocket kings for top set.

However Akkari didn't have to sweat for long as the {A-Clubs} hit the turn to complete his flush. He faded a repeat on the river as the {2-Diamonds} bricked and Akkari doubles to 25,000.

Akenhead-ache

We didn't see how James Akenhead got short, but we caught him shoving his last chips from the button with {K-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and the small blind making the call with {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

The board bricked without any help for Akenhead and he was sent to an early dinner.

The Fast and The Furious

The big screen tells us that we're already down to just 418 players in the field, which means we've lost over 1,250 players in the first six levels of play! That's the beauty of short-handed poker - it encourages action!

We expect the pace to slow down somewhat after dinner, otherwise we're going to get close to the money bubble by the end of the day's play.

Trouble For Turner

Jon Turner raised the cutoff position to 450 and found calls from the button and big blind to see a flop of {5-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{6-Spades}.

Play checked to Turner who followed up with a continuation bet of 775. The button made the call as the big blind released.

The turn was the {8-Spades} and Turner checked to his opponent who took control with a bet of 1,400. Turner thought for several moments before sliding out a call.

The river delivered he {9-Diamonds} and Turner checked the dangerous board once again. His opponent considered his options and decided that "all in" was his best play. Turner rolled his eyes and decided to save his last 5,500 chips for a better spot as he folded his hand.

Full Blown Chip Lead

Greg Mueller, during an earlier event
Greg Mueller, during an earlier event

Greg "FBT" Mueller has shot out to the tournament chip lead with 65,000 in chips following the elimination of another opponent.

Catching the action on the turn on a board of {5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Spades} Mueller checked, and then shoved over the top of his opponent's bet of 3,600. The unknown player cringed before making a crying call for the rest of his stack.

He tabled {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and Mueller sighed, "Ahh you got it..." showing {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for a pair and flush draw.

The river was flipped and the {4-Spades} gave Mueller his flush and the monster pot. Mueller had a sensational 2009 WSOP with two bracelets and is going to be a real threat for the remainder of this tournament.

Boatman Busto

Barny Boatman
Barny Boatman

When we arrived at the table, the flop was reading {5-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. Barny Boatman moved all in and his opponent made the call.

Showdown
Boatman: {10-Spades}{9-Spades}
Opponent: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Turn: {2-Hearts}
River {q-Hearts}

A set of jacks for Boatman's opponent were good as Boatman missed his straight and flush draw. He is out of the tournament.
