Comfort is Key

Alert Change100... Hoodies are clearly in
Alert Change100... Hoodies are clearly in

A lot of people -- players, media, dealers, staff -- are spending many, many hours in the Amazon and Pavilion ballrooms this summer. Generally speaking, the conditions are quite pleasant, although some have commented on the temperatures being perhaps a tad chilly at times. Of course, with highs in the triple-digits outdoors (as we've had in Vegas of late), it is always going to seem a bit cool inside the Rio.

In any case, the Amazon Room is perhaps a bit on the cool side today. At least players in our event came prepared.

Negreanu Finds Small Double

After losing a big pot to Joe Cassidy, Daniel Negreanu got some small revenge with a double of his own.

Negreanu moved all in predraw for his last 10,600 and Cassidy made the call with both players drawing one.

Negreanu held {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-} while Cassidy was drawing with his {8-}{7-}{6-}{4-}.

Fortunately for Negreanu, Cassidy paired up with an {8-} while he caught a {Q-} to double through to 25,000 as Cassidy slipped to 130,000 in chips.

Lights Out for Black

Andy Black's elimination means 30 players remain
Andy Black's elimination means 30 players remain

We caught up to the end of a big hand between Andy Black and David Baker.

Black was all in, and had a {9-}{7-}{6-}-X-X hand in front of him in defense of his tourney life. But David Baker had the {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} -- the Number One -- against which Black's hand could not compete.

Black is out, while Baker now has a whopping 240,000.

We are down to 30 players.

Jamshidi In Serious Trouble

Sirous Jamshidi opened to 6,000 and both Yan Chen and George Lind made the call.

All three players drew one, but it would be a 15,000-chip bet from Chen that would be enough to take the pot down.

Unfortunately for Jamshidi, he is one of the tournament short stacks at the moment with just 25,000 in chips and will be looking to gather some momentum soon if he is to add to his previous nine WSOP cashes; one of which is from this year.

Mo' for Monnette

Homan Houshiar opened for 6,000 from middle position and got two callers -- John Monnette (button) and David Baker (small blind). Baker drew one, Houshiar stood pat, and Baker took one.

It checked to Monnette who bet 13,500. Baker got out, but Houshiar called. Monnette showed {9-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-} while Houshiar had {10-}-X-X-X-X. Monnette collected the chips.

That pushes Monnette up to 145,000. Baker is still way up there with 245,000. And Houshiar has 67,000.

Schulman KO'd

Nick Schulman hits the rail
Nick Schulman hits the rail

Nick Schulman opened to 5,500 and Eric Kesselman three-bet to 17,000 only to have Schulman four-bet all in for 45,300.

Kesselman made the call and drew one with his {8-}{7-}{3-}{2-}, while Schulman stood pat on his {J-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}.

Kesselman caught a {6-} and sent Schulman to the rail while climbing to 245,000 in chips.

Kabbaj Falls

John Kabbaj moved all in for 21,600 from under the gun and after a Barry Greenstein isolation raise from the small blind, we were off to a showdown.

Greenstein stood pat tabling his {9-}{8-}{7-}{6-}{3-} while Kabbaj drew one, only to muck at the sight of Greenstein's nine-eight.

Kabbaj's hand was tabled (as per WSOP rules) and read {10-}{7-}{3-}{2-} with him drawing an {A-}.

Kabbaj hit the rail and Greenstein pushed over the 100,000.

Dwan Done

Par Alexande Hilderbrand opened for 6,000 from middle position, Tom "durrrr" Dwan called from the small blind, then Peter Gould reraised to 31,000 from the big blind. Hilderbrand got out, and Dwan called with his last 8,500 chips.

Dwan drew one card, while Gould stood pat. Dwan tabled {J-}{8-}{5-}{3-}{2-}, not enough versus Gould's {10-}{9-}{7-}{5-}{2-}. Dwan is out in 28th while Gould now has 85,000.

Gone With the Lind

George Lind, out in 27th
George Lind, out in 27th

George Lind just now pushed all in with his last 26,400 from under the gun and got one caller in Vincent Musso, sitting to Lind's left. Lind took one card, and Musso stuck with the five he had.

Lind was drawing to an {8-}-low, but picked up a {K-}. Meanwhile, Musso had been dealt a pat 9 -- {9-}{7-}{6-}{5-}{2-}.

Lind is out in 27th place, while Musso moves up to 203,000.
