Yesterday Stephen Chidwick enjoyed the chip lead for several levels during the early evening. The story we heard was that Chidwick was fairly new to deuce-to-seven lowball, having received a quick tutelage in the game from his friend David "Bakes" Baker shortly before the start of play yesterday.
As it happens, those two drew seats beside each other today, although it appears their table is about to break. They are sitting to the left of Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, and the trio were just now laughing about a hand from yesterday in which Ferguson was dealt quad fours, made a small raise before the draw, then stood pat. (If you are curious, here's that hand.)
Chidwick continues to show he's a fast learner, sitting at present with 106,000. Meawhile Baker has 74,000 and Ferguson 28,500.
Tom "durrrr" Dwan raised to 4,100 from UTG. Then Nick Schulman -- winner of this same event in 2009 -- called from the cutoff. John Juanda next reraised to 16,500 from the button.
Dwan tanked for some time, then announced he was reraising all in, too. Both Schulman and Juanda skedaddled.
Dwan sorted through his cards for a moment, then showed the . The table erupted in laughter, perhaps expecting to see a more bluffy-looking card from durrrr.
Dwan now has 88,000. Schulman has 83,000, while Juanda has slipped to 42,000.
Currently a glance at the top of the leaderboard shows two Team PokerStars pros at the top, with George Danzer of PokerStars Team Germany in first and Anton "A.Allemann" Allemann of PokerStars Team Switzerland in second. Danzer currently is leading the way with about 160,000, with Allemann his closest competitor with 125,000.
Their teammate Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu (of PokerStars Team Canada) has also moved into the top ten, having chipped up close to 100,000.
Other Team PokerStars pros still alive in this one are Barry "barryg1" Greenstein, Greg "Fossilman" Raymer, Jason Mercier, and Chad "ChadBrownPRO" Brown (all Team PokerStars USA) and George "Jorj95" Lind III (Team PokerStars Online).
David "Bakes" Baker opened for 3,500 from UTG, Jason Mercier called from one seat over, and it folded around to John Kabbaj in the small blind. Kabbaj thought a bit, then made it 15,500 to go.
Doyle Brunson seriously considered playing along from the big blind before folding. Then Baker pushed all in over the top for about 62,000 more. Mercier got out, and Kabbaj tanked for two minutes before letting it go.
Baker is now at 88,000, while Kabbaj still has 45,000.
